Chuck Brattain has been a Fender Steel Man for as long as there's been Fender Steels. He knew Leo Fender well, and he was one of the authors of the "Natural Method" Steel Guitar Course back in the early 50s. If anything, he's over qualified!
Gary - send that man a newsletter and a Jody Carver Fender Steel Guitar Club decoder ring!

Thank you, Thank you, and as Elvis would sat "Thank You Very Much".

In the middle 40's I worked at the Santa Ana House of Music as a student steel guitar teacher and this man came in one day, he was a radio repairman in Fullerton, with a steel guitar he had designed and I thought it would never go over. BOY, WAS I WRONG. His name was Leo Fender.

Well this is a FIRST in my 45 years.
My name was at the top of something.
Sorted by first name, and it's never officially happened to me before.
Usually I'm at the bottom of the bottom.
Thanks!! (heh heh...)

Jody, that was a birthday present from my good friend Big John Bechtel. I have no idea how he found out it was my birthday or how he knew what I wanted, but he did - and what a nice birthday surprise!

Then Lazy Dick Brandt almost spoiled the whole thing when he attempted to sneak out the door with it, but I caught him just in the nick of time. I was able to snap this photo of him - caught in the act!

He kept saying something about how it was too heavy and needed to be hollowed out . .

Attention Men Of the Tweed

Fender is on target after reading all of your comments. It looks as though we woke a sleeping Giant.

Your dreams may come true after all.

I would love to see someone step up and do an article on the "NEW FENDERS" (man that sounds nice) any volunteers???????

I hope it is true what Jody says that we have raised a sleeping giant. There are some nice non- pedal steels made today but there is just something about that tweed...

I did check at the local fender dealer in Denver and the guy said "like,,, dude, what's a lap steel?

Looks like we will need to teach them a thing or two.

"You can't feel the need,
If it ain’t got that tweed"

RICK,

Would you mind passing along a hello and aloha for my friend Dick Brandt, whom I have not seen in many years. Tell him that I am still steeling away.

He used to come to the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Assn. conventions in Joliet for years and then he suddenly disappeared.

Your post gave me an up to date. The reason for his disappearance has been he is into steeling (stealing) steel guitars now.

Aloha,
Don

Chris you are not only in, you are IN LIKE FLINT! People, this guy is a killer player!

The March newsletter is currently "under construction" I should have it done this weekend. (I hope)

Would anyone like to write the TIPS & TRICKS article this month?

It can be on anything that you think would help make us better players. Please email me and I will set it up.

Thanks again,
The humble servant of tweed.

impeach me from the office of the prestigious

Make no mistake...I did NOT HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH A GIBSON GUITAR.
