"Sergeant of Steel" - man, I like the sound of that! .
Check out this 40s Dual Pro that Chuck Brittain had restored . . It's the same guitar as my old '48.
Looks like "before and after" pics, but in fact they're both "right now" pics . . Chuck could definitely be a member of this club - he was playing vintage Fenders long before they were considered vintage. He was one of the authors of The Natural Method Steel Guitar course which came out in the early 50s. He also makes very nice Black Rajah and Red Phoenix bars - and epoxy coated finger picks too . . And here he is with a restored Quad8: He's a true Fender Steel Man! [This message was edited by Rick Alexander on 24 January 2005 at 10:03 PM.]

If I join now can I be considered a CHARTER MEMBER of the JC Fender Steel Guitar Club?It would be an honor to join the Club, so count me in! I have a Black D-8 Stringmaster (1960). Previously I had Japanese made DIAMOND ARAI which was actually a copycat Studio Deluxe Fender. Anyone every hear of it? I would probably have been thrown out of the JC Fender Steel Guitar Club for owning such a fake instrument. Right? Anyway I got rid of it and got my Black D-8 Stringmaster and now I can be an authenic member. I am only about a month old member and am enjoying the chatter. |

As was mentioned in the first half of this thread by Sir Jody..he has appointed me as his Ambassador of Goodwill and banned me from wearing my beloved Tee Shirts, fortunately he also appointed Anne Marie as my official dresser and guidance in what I wear...I have also requested the help of Donna D in this most important time consuming position. They have spent hours and hours sewing by the dull light of a candle and have made me a wonderful suit..one leg green....one leg red..half of the shirt red....half green..a special hat coming to a point with a bell on it.....turned up toes on my shoes....they are both dressed in long gowns of emerald green and deep red as befitting this Memorial to the Knight of the Tweed Tony |

The Ambassador of Good Will writes and I quote Sir Tony Davis...Anne Marie as my official dresser and guidance in what I wear...Yes and for good reason mate. After seeing you dressing according to the standards of Sir Smiley Roberts,a meeting was held and it was voted on that you are to have Anne Marie choose your wardrobe. . And one last thing Sir,please change your undergarments on a regular basis..Odor will not be tolerated A suggestion buy those 7 day deoderant pads and change them daily. Being 7 day deoderant pads does not mean you can wear the same pads for 7 days...a odor test will be staged at random. Anything older than 7 days will be disposed of at the Smiley Roberts disposal dump.
The Knight Of Fender Tweed Has Spoken..in other words "get your act cleaned up" If for some reason you drop your pads...please pick them up using sterile latex gloves.[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 26 January 2005 at 06:02 AM.] |

The name has been changed to protect the innocent!Actually, it was brought to my attention that not everyone owns a Stringmaster. In this all- inclusive world we live in it was thought to be best to do "Steel Guitar" instead. Since none of the letterhead, Billboards, National TV ads, and Hot air baloons have not been printed yet now would be the time. We should leave no steel guitar behind... Is there anyone that can do a good restoration of a Fender triple neck. Its the dark brown, around a 57 or 58 model.I will pull the necks apart to look for a date of build. It will need dings and scraches repaired ,some rechrome work and 4 new legs and a case built for it. It has the flip up covers and the tone wheels on each neck.the guitar has some history behind it .The late Roy Wiggons played it on his tribute to George Morgan album and was played on the opry before he was presented his sho-bud made for him. mthanks for your help. I will pull the necks apart...WHAT??? would you like someone to do that to you...your a mean cat....remove the tuning key pan closest to you and look under the pan and you will find initials and the date it was manufactured..If not remove the pickup tray and look for the aluminum material that grounds the guitar and it may be there.Dont look under the bed for the pan..I dont think you'll find it there..thats a great guitar dont pull anything apart what are you a savage? only kidding,,,,try what I suggested I think you will find the birthdate of your baby Good luck and let me know how you make out OK? |

Donna Dodd writes from the Georgia Peach State. Are GIRLS allowed? Only those who qualify. We have thought of you being sort of a historian to answer questions from members who need information regarding their Fender non pedal guitars. To help them and keep them in line when they cross the line of rules set here. You will need the following 1-Cowhorn Forceps to remove parts that are old and difficult to remove. 2-An Explorer Spoon Excavator so that you can excavate those who need to be excavated. 3-Saliva Ejector for those who "drool" for a mint Fender,,sometimes reffered to as a "Thirsty Joe (what the hell is that)? 4-Upper and Lower Alginate Impression for those who want to make a good impression on others. 5-An East and West Elevator for those who reside on the west coast or east coast, If they live in the middle, thats their problem. I never heard of a midwest Elevator other than the ones that go up and down and up and down and that gets boring. 6- and this most of all for those who get real nasty,,,A High Speed Handpiece W/557 Fissure Bur,,that should smooth them down a bit. Other than what has been described here. I am pleased to appoint Donna Dodd as Fender Tweed Historian...you can leave the suitcase home,I think it was manufactured by Gibson oops there's that word again. Your mission is important to the security and secrecy of what makes a Fender different and if anyone gives you a difficult time....Its ROOT CANAL TIME without the NOVACAINE. this confirms your position in the Kingdom of Tweed..does Tommy want to join? I have a pair of tweed pants that were last worn in 1948,,they are originals,,,you can find the date of manufacture in the right rear pocket under the belt loop on the left side. Further instructions to follow. YOU ARE NOW AN OFFICIAL QUALIFIED AND DIGNIFIED MEMBER...dont wash Tommys pants. The older the better, leave them original.these pants were once touched by Leo Fender God Rest his soul. I think its time to rest the soul of the tweed pants as well. The Knight Of Fender Lunatics has spoken ?? me too.. edited to take 5 tylenol 4 with codiene..you think this is easy and if you think Im nuts,,,you are right.

This is the other pic he had. You know, it just occurred to me - this guy seems more than a little shady . . . What the heck was he doing with this pic?? I've heard he moonlights as a second story man. Did your hotel room get robbed 50 years ago by any chance? Look what it says: It's kind of hard to read, but it says: quote: Jody, I enjoyed your wonderful performance, You made me happy with your God-given talent - You are always welcome to return Good Luck, Lad Arthur Godfrey
I wonder what else this dude has of yours. I think I'll pay him a little visit and see what I can find out!

Hello Knight of Fender Tweed, I loved your piece on dentistry, and made a copy for my boss. Very clever! So did the club send out a recess announcement or something? Where has everyone been? Well, at Recess, I’m sure. Being the punctual member I’m committed to being, I’m reporting in on some of my TWEED findings of late. The Club is in luck and very timely, guys! According to WWD magazine, tweed has made a comeback. But not so quick to get excited about that preppy look our generation respected and loved. For 2005, it must be worn differently than the way we wore it, of course. Since receiving my title, Princess of Tweed, I wanted to brush up on the do’s and don’ts of the NEW tweed fad before helping our Goodwill Ambassador, Sir Tony Davis with his wardrobe. Here are some 2005 guidelines I stumbled upon for mixing and matching our tweeds. Try tweeds with metallic, leather, a black satin dress or even plaids. (I’m serious, this was in the article!!) Now who are these people kidding? I’d eat a tweed sandwich before I’d wear it with metallic! If you're really ready to stand out from the crowd, wear your tweed jacket over a camisole or nothing at all, then pile on layer upon layer of gold necklaces and chokers for a modern look. This sounds more like salad bar etiquette than fashion advise. (No, Tony – this just isn’t YOU yet!) I’ll be continuing research on Tony’s green-legged tweed trousers.Princess of Tweed |

Well, I figured out the best way to record a Stringmaster to get that tasty natural sound. It must have been time well spent because Jeff Au Hoy himself emailed me to ask what recording techniques I used. TOO OLD is the name of the song . . Maybe I should make that the subject of the article for the newsletter.
Now if I can just get Jeff to tell me how to make my slants 100% accurate every time . .
