Hi Everyone! I am very proud to announce that my husband, Roy, will soon be receiving special recognition in the music world. We just received a letter from Lou Bischoff, President of the Seattle Western Music Society, informing Roy that he has been selected to be inducted into their Hall of Fame as a “Pioneer of Western Swing” in August, 2005. Roy didn’t want me to post this, as he thought it would sound egotistical on his part. However, it was announced publicly in the Society’s latest Newsletter – so, Honey, you’re just going to have to live with it; the word is already out and I just had to share the good news! Roy tells me that a number of his steel guitar idols are listed in the archives of the Society as Pioneers of Western Swing, including Herb Remingron, Bud Isaacs, Bob White and Pee Wee Whitewing, as well as two of his personal steel guitarist friends, Bobby Koefer and Joaquin Murphey There are also some well known bandleaders who have been inductees, including Smokey Rogers and Spade Cooley. Every steel player’s friend, Mike Gross, is also in that prestigious list. Since we will not be able to be present at the awards Seattle in August, Roy’s good friend, Slim Dossey, also in the Seattle Hall Of Fame, has agreed to accept the award in Roy’s behalf. Slim traveled for a number of years with the Sons of the Pioneers. Roy cut a record session with Slim in Los Angeles in 1966. Please help me tell him congratulations. I love you Honey and I'm so proud of you! |

This recognition is awarded to a very deserving person and musician. Congratulations Roy. Thanks for this posting, Laurie. Roy's music will leave a long, long trail with big footprints that no one else could ever fill. The Western Swing Hall of Fame building is a lot fuller with the induction of Roy Ayres. Glad you are back in the music after a long absence-the world needs you exactly where you are now. Your friend, Bill Stafford |

Laurie- I have to tell you, it was an absolute thrill of a lifetime to interview Roy for a documentary and to hear Roy play in Gulfport. Not only that, but to have the honor of introducing him. From where I was sitting backstage, I could look over Roy's shoulder and see you in the back of the room with a proud smile on your face. Oh, love's wonderful when you're young! Thank you for the beautiful recitation of the Jerry Byrd song you and Roy composed. Congratulations Roy, on your induction into the Western Swing Hall of Fame! ------------------ Having a steel guitar show you want to promote? Add it to the calendar at www.steelguitargear.com |

Thanks to all of you. It is hard to put into words the feeling of being placed into a category with so many of my idols from years gone by; it’s a feeling somewhere between pride and disbelief. The best part of it is having a wife like Laurie who has always supported me in my endeavors — be it in music or elsewhere — and having friends like all of you who have posted congratulations above or sent me congratulatory emails. Again, thank you my friends. ------------------ Visit my Web Site at RoysFootprints.com |

I don't know what took so long...I knew this was a great person and a fine musician sixty years ago. Jody mentioned Roy and L.T. Zinn in a previous thread. now for me it don't get much better than that.Back in the forties and fifties there was not better pickers anywhere.I will put them all right where they belong in my Hall of Fame along with Jerry Byrd ,Don Helms and a few others from the early days. God bless them all and Roy you are truly an inspiration. Every good picker deserves a great guitar and a great wife, you my friend have it all.. From days gone by...Bud |

I received a huge surprise today as a Father's Day gift. Our kids just presented Laurie and me with pre-paid round-trip tickets to Seattle so that I can be there personally for induction into the Seattle Western Swing Music Society's Hall Of Fame as a "Pioneer Of Western Swing." Also, they announced that some of my old friends out West are providing for our lodging and ground transportation while there. Laurie and I are both still in a state of shock. My old friend, Slim Dossey, had previously agreed to accept the award for me, as we had thought we would not be there -- but Slim got together with our daughter, Tammy Martin, to arrange the entire trip. Our kids (Tim & Tammy Martin, Dean & Tammy Jo Owen and Ed & Tony Owen) pooled their resources to sponsor the trip. Slim and his friend, Chuck Whitely, will meet us at the Seattle airport on Thursday, August 11, and Slim has scheduled me to participate in most of the jams through Sunday, August 14, when the award ceremonies take place. Laurie and I are highly excited about the trip and I am looking forward to visiting with some of my old-time West Coast friends. We are immeasurably grateful to our family and friends who are making the trip possible for us. ------------------ Visit my Web Site at RoysFootprints.com |

Congrats Roy (and Laurie). My parents, Joe and Vernie Wren, were inducted into the California Western Swing Hall of Fame, and it was actually the best thing to have ever happened to them.... and what a nice Father's day present... I thought I made out like a bandit when my daughter just bought me a new amp cover for my aging Session 500(:>). Have a great time. ------------------ |
