![]() Listening this morning, Brad Paisley was on, Good guitar player and singing was not bad, not quite as on pitch as his records. Fine steeling, good band, not too much distortion on the guitar. Then Imus said that he grew up on Hank, Haggard, Jones, etc, but now he's sick of them. Hag is p.o.ed because they don't play his records on the radio. Imus said its over, the bus has moved on, get over it. Progress is good, but if something was good twenty years ago, it may be dated now but it's still good. I want to hear some new stuff, and I want to hear some old stuff too. Imus lost a fan this morning. ------------------ |

![]() In other previous shows he has shown much adulation for George, Merle, Buck and others, while at the same time "putting down" the latest country crass (except for George Strait, Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis - Paisley, too). Imus is a walking contradiction. I think the guy is starting to get seriously lame, and maybe experiencing early senility or alzhiemers. I think his remark about Jones and Haggard was merely stating a fact. Sad but true, those guys are not being played much or promoted. It's just the way he said it, that miffed many. I saw the whole 3 hours and I liked David Crosby's take on the whole music industry. Mega-music big cats were quick to capitalize on this. After all, people do taste food and listen to music with their eyes. Don't they?? ![]() Interesting post by Chip, re Imus and his contradictory nature. I couldn't tell you-I haven't caught the guy too often over the years. I think he comes on around 4 AM out here on the coast. If I'm not forced to get up that early due to something like having to catch a plane for a business trip-there is only one thing that'll get me up at that time, and that'd be fishing. Howard-I'm under the assumption that you have been at least a somewhat regular listener/watcher of Imus for some time. Assuming that's the case, I'll play the devil's advocate here: The guy makes a short statement that you wrote about above, regarding classic country music, and now you're completely done with him? Strikes me as being pretty harsh! ------------------ |

![]() When I was a teenager in Cleveland, Ohio, Imus was a dj at a local country station there. I remember the time he played a Dave and Sugar record and when it was done he announced: "That was Dave and the Bimbos". He has always spoke his mind it seems. |

![]() In spite of his NUTTINESS, Imus today, is still a staunch fan and supporter of "traditional" country. I think so. He wavers. Yes he does. But he has put some great country artists on his AM show over the past 3-4 years that I've known about him - and all I can say is he has opened up many eyes; including redneck Barnard. I love the guy. Hey - at least he tries. And he has the power and resources to do so. [This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 27 November 2006 at 09:22 PM.] |

![]() I sure don't agree with everything Imus says, but he does support country music! I guess the thing to do is go out and buy the new Jones & Hag CD! ![]() |

![]() Yeah he's right in that they don't play the classic Hagard and Jones on the radio BUT, you outta see the sold out house when either one of those guys show up for a concert here in East Texas. Older folks, young folks and everything in between. I'd like to see Imess draw a crowd like that. Rick |

![]() Ditto, Don Imus has alway been a supporter of Country Music. Maybe a lot of us don't always agree with his opinions but I have liked his show since the 1010 WINS days.Catch it sometimes on MSNBC. Funny stuff happens. Howard Stern sort of modeled himself after Imus when starting out then just turned raunchy nuts.Imus who always looks like he needs oxygen features the next Governor of Texas Kinky Friedman often. Always a blast. |

![]() As far as I know Don Imus was the first Shock Jock,That's the part that I miss,He has a great book of his,and his brother's photographs of AZ.And he was a U.S.Marine.Yes he is a big fan of roots country, and blues music. ![]() My sense is that Haggard is not mad that they are not playing his records--disappointed certainly-- but is mad about what as displaced his music from the commercial airwaves. I think he's mad about the sad state of country music. I know I am. I mean the fact that you guys are listening to Imus instead of a country station says it all. ------------------ |
Tommy M Member From: Indiana |
![]() Ron Page: I agree 100%. As a matter of fact, I recall George Jones doing an interview with Merle on the show George used to have on TNN. George started getting on his soap box about not getting airplay and Hag told him if they never played himself or George on the radio again that they shouldn't complain -- they had been very fortunate. That's not an exact quote, but close. I was suprised it didn't get edited out, but I was impressed and proud of Hag for takin' the "higher road". I don't imagine much has changed. Getting back "on topic", I've never heard or seen Imus. I have always heard good things about his support of country music from friends that do keep up with him. ![]() Actually, the most common way to catch the Imus radio show these days--outside of NYC-- is to tune in MSNBC on cable in the mornings. Here's his web page on MSNBC.com His show is more of a talk format than music. He's usually got something interesting to say whether you agree with him or not. I think he tries to be a bit provocative. ------------------ |

![]() Try www.WFAN.com streaming radio. Imus is on Monday - Friday 6:00-9:00AM [EST] on MSNBC (TV). He usually has some musical entity on, and/or some other kind of artist. Bob Barrett and a couple other characters on the show do hilarious impersonations of "pop" people, like Bill Clinton, Dr Phil, Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwal etc. Like anything, some days are better than others. ![]() So, he's on news and sports stations? |
George Redmon Member From: |
![]() b0bby he's a burned out ex crack head, that went from spinning old rock and roll songs on late night AM radio stations, to a hard left winger trying to do news and political interviews. Most of the time he doesn't have a clue what's going on. Hates conservatives, and is a hilary, karry butt kisser. He has a brother that looks 90 and act's about 12 years old. Imus is anti everything. I turn him on long enough to watch the musical gust he might have on, then shut him right back off. Just about as much of him as i can stand. He is agnostic, hates everything from people who live in manufactured homes, to obestity, to bald heads,to gays to conservatives. Has a fasination for calling people names, and putting labels on everyone. Has a young ex actress wife who is a health food nut. He has a kid that is spoiled so bad he's gonna be like his dad. He owns a ranch for children with cancer which was built by corporation donations, but is a good idea..but to show you his type of logic..it is a long horn working cattle ranch..yet he is against eating meat, go figure. Thinks he owns NBC. He chews this nicorate nicotine gum. ROlls it between his fingers, between his hands, drops it on the floor, puts it on his desk, puts it on the back of his hands, make we want to puke watching him put it back in his mouth. What turned me off about the guy was, when they were doing street construction in downtown new york, and he couldn't get closer then one block to his brownstone..he was going to call the mayor of new york and complain because he had to walk one block from his limo to his front door. His brother is also a ex junkie, that Imus set up in various business operations to keep him from starving to death, from selling online clothes, to selling coffee and chips and organic salsa. A lady friend bought me many articles of Imus clothing..i can show a few online here if you wish..a beautiful 4 corner jacket that cost her around 300 bucks, i seldom wear it. Also he wrote a book..well..i say wrote..it was all photographs..i don't think it had one actual word in it....! #1 on the New York Best Seller List....hummmmm editted fer spelin'..what do you expect from a bald headed trailer park trash as imus would call me..... ![]() I sometimes hear his radio show on WFAN, sports talk from NYC, if I'm up that early! He's a controversial character who has made a career of saying bizarre things on the radio. Somewhat like Howard Stern, but milder. Like Stern, he doesn't really do anything but talk. The main qualifications for that job: brass b@llS and a big mouth. His comments got Howard Tate angry enough to start this post. Mission accomplished. ------------------ [This message was edited by Doug Beaumier on 02 December 2006 at 10:42 PM.] |

![]() I think I'll avoid watching or listening to him. It doesn't sound like a pleasant or entertaining experience to me. Of course, most of radio and television is crap as far as I'm concerned, so it sounds like he's probly par for the course. Is this a music topic? ------------------ |
Howard Tate Member From: Leesville, Louisiana, USA |
![]() Didn't know what I was starting here. I was just venting I guess, what set me off is that he claims to be a country music fan, always wears that comical looking hat with the chin strap, and then says he's sick of hearing Hag and Jones. I hope that comment didn't influence any of his listeners. I've never really been a fan, but sometimes the program is humorous, and sometimes has good guests, like Martina and her band. Sorry b0b, I thought it was a music topic. ------------------ |
Bobby Lee Sysop From: Cloverdale, North California, USA |
![]() I guess if it's about Imus' comments about music, it's a music topic. I gather he has musical guests performing. Why does he say things against classic country? Makes no sense to me, unless he's just trying to get a rise out old steel guitar players! ![]() |

![]() Well, isn't Imus as much a "product" as anyone else on TV (including all those--just about anyone--who count being his guest as a publicity move, everyone doing and saying as told by somebody at a spreadsheet or a consultant in envelope pushing? (For the matter, it's interesting that no one here has mentioned the downright foul material of several of his guests). [This message was edited by James Cann on 05 December 2006 at 05:30 AM.] |

![]() I'll have to add to Don's credits, the "Veterans' Rehab Center" in San Antonio, and raising our soldier's death benefit a substantial amount vs the, IMO, pittance they had been given that would cover a funeral. It seems to me that he does speak before thinking sometimes, IMO. I do find some humor in his dedication to a vegetarian lifestill and yet exibiting a, IMO, chronic cough and constant complaining about being sick (which Chuck McCord went off on him about, I believe this am). I think that if Merle came on his show he would probably dig his music (remember the Vince Gill thing). |
Charles Curtis Member From: Bethesda, Maryland, USA |
![]() I'd better qualify the "Veteran's Rehab Center" contribution; Don helped quite a bit in getting (soliciting from donors) millions to finish it. |
