Gene Casey said you are a real Cowboy and you play better than I. She did say I play OK but she did say something nice, she said even though I wasn't a real Cowboy like you,I smelled like one. I wonder what she meant by that??? |

Those of you who are reading this, dont blame me. It was my friend Dave Van Allen that started this. And Im glad he did,if it were not for Dave none of you would ever have known me,"what am I saying" you may have been better off. Hi Dave, see what you started.Thank you again. I owe ya. |

Mr.Van Allen Im a new member and the grandson of Jody's . He speaks very highly of you and all you have done to help him. I was born a couple of years before the Hotclub album came out. . He deserves it as he has been one of the best and still is.I want to thank you.I saw Jody Sunday and he told us all about how you got his album recognition and he is most grateful to you. That poem Aunt Lorrie wrote is beautiful and so my cute little cousin Casey, she's a doll. I play trombone but I have not been able to play the Hawiian guitar. Jody is going to help me. I have a degree in Music as I graduated from Julliard school of Music,I love the Hawaiian steel guitar and again, thanks for making Jody get some recognition he so rightfully deserves. He was a pioneer in this area as a Hawaiian guitar player as well as a top notch Fender salesman for Fender since 1951 and an an endorser as well. Thank You Greg Sullivan. Im new at this computer so excuse my typing. Greg[This message was edited by Greg Sullivan on 08 December 2005 at 07:28 AM.] |

Julliard ! That's a real accomplishment Greg. Wonderful. You should find steel a cinch once you get the hang of it. Problem is, Jody only knows 2 chords. I think I could be of much better help to you because I know all 3 chords, and oh yes, that other one also. Give me a call anytime. Also, my rate is cheaper than Jody's. |

George - I feel so proud that I finally inspired you to learn that Em chord! (Now here's a really fancy one for you - I think it's an Em11... has the notes E, A, D, G and B in it, and one of those notes is repeated 2 octaves higher - see if you can find it on your guitar... ) Nick |

Thanx Jody ! i grew up playin'in Ft Tryon park, and later i really dug the Cloisters especially on Sunday when they had Gregorian chants. To prove how small the world is, the Cloisters came from the PairO'knees round where i live now. and so did the Brown Bear that's in the NY museum of Ntl History. i'll tell ya' more later when i get the facts straight. All the Best to both of you |

to get back to the Brown Bear... back in the 1890s some mountain men from the Pyrenees captured and taught Bears how to dance ( they learned that from Gypsys who did the same to make a few $$$) after touring through Europe w: the Bears they headed for the US. these were the times when Buffalo Bill's Wild West show was big. WWI came around so they returned to France cause they would have been condemned as deserters if they did'nt return to fulfill their duties on the front lines. So they left the bears in the US cause they were'nt takin' them back w: them. and that's how one of them Bears got stuffed and got into the Museum of Ntl History in NY When the war was over, these people returned to the US with a bunch of kinfolk and neighbors to get away from the hard times that they had up here in the mountains. Most of these folks worked in restaurants and hotel kitchens in NY ( Waldorf, Plaza)where they learned the trade. In the 30s they opened up their own restaurants and cafés in NY and there still goin' strong: "La Pergola des Artistes" on 46 st; "Chez René" at 321 W 51 st "Beau Rivage" on 46 st "Le Biarritz" look in the yellow pages ! these Folks all come from a little hamlet called Cominac which is part of a burg called Ercé in Ariége. Go check 'em out and tell them that a French American that lives up in their neck of the woods sent ya'! they might even offer ya' a glass of wine ! how's that for a plug ?

Casey Was The Star of The Christmas Pageant today at St.Andrews Lutheran church in Yorktown Heights NY.Casey recited a poem that her mom wrote and everyone in the church applauded her. She was really great. All the children did a show on The night Christ was born, and I sat with tears in my eyes as I watched all these sweet young children perform. They received a standing ovation from the congregation. Casey and her best friend Caitlin played the part of the Angels,it was easy for them because they are just that. I wished I were able to post Lorries beautiful poem,I dont have the words right now. But if you ask me,I'll get the words and post them. Caseys other Grandmom has the same thing Marilyn has and with the prayers and work of God she will be fine. Pray for her as well please, her name is Ramona Reynolds. Besides Casey and Cailtlin, Marilyn and Ramona were the prettiest looking gals in church. And thanks to all of you,Casey told me to tell you she got her front tooth for Christmas,,Santa came early this year. This will be the best Christmas of my life. Thanks to all of you. Marilyn and Ramona are beleivers and with prayer and belief in God they will be fine. Jody. PS want a poem written N/C? just ask me and send the subject you wish to have written She can do everything, I wished I had her talent. Be well and thanks again. Casey is pretty, just like her mom

I wish I could remember what event caused me to become acquainted with Jody Carver, but; for the life of me; I can't, except that I know this Forum must have had something to do with it! I'm just glad it happened! I have grown to feel that I've know him all my life, although we have never actually met! I hope I can solve that discrepancy one of these days. Best of everything this world has to offer to both Jody and his wife Marilyn!------------------ “Big John” Bechtel http://community.webtv.net/KeoniNui/BigJohnBechtels |

Jody What a great Story and you didn't get to write this one. Its Great of your daughter to put you in the Congratulations on the gig. I find myself on the opposite end of the scale working old folks homes. Could be I'm looking for the right place to live in the not so distance future. Don't Let Smiley Play this gig with you or you will have a problem like this. Bring Gene with you, Cowboys have more class. but tell him to leave his guns at home. But on the other hand Smiley can bring this and a bunch of Nashville pickers. Whatever you do don't ride the bus if Smiley's driving. Not a Smart thing to do. Dave Van Allen You are a Class Act! Thanks, Mr. Sullivan, for refreshing this thread for the 2003 Christmas season -- and thanks, Mr. Van Allen, for starting it last year. I missed the thread on its first trip around, as I didn't discover and join this great Forum until a few months ago.Since I joined the Forum Jody has become a great long-distance friend to me. We discovered that, both of us having worked for Fender at the same time, we have a lot of common friends and a few good Fender memories and stories to tell. After several months of goading him, I finally got Jody to send me a picture of himself -- and I was greatly relieved to learn that he was uglier than me. Merry Christmas Jody, Marilyn, Lorrie and Casey. |

Every time Caleb comes to stay with me he has to visit four places on the Forum. In his order of preference they are:Donny Hinson's singing bug. Gene's singing horses. John's Reindeer Christmas song and this tribute to Jody. He has got to see that the girls are still here and then he goes for his toys and other things I think that says a world of Tribute from a small, innocent, loving 19 month little boy. He loves this Forum and all of you ( sorry John: Y'all !) as much as I do !! God Bless Us All !! Regards, Paul |

I am glad to say that in the past year I have finally gotten to meet Jody in person, shake his hand and share a hug. He and Marilyn were gracious enough to have us to lunch on our way back to PA from Vermont this past summer. A true pleasure to spend time with one of my musical heroes. Next time we'll have to "pick a li'l bit"... my Hot Club of America in Hi-Fi Tribute Site is still up, but I have discontinued the webcast at Jody's request while he sorts out the legalities surrounding a possible re-issue. (The Live365 webcast is still up at the link in my signature, it's just not HCOA anymore... it's my stuff) as always: ------------------ "I AM Z-BOY!"
