I have lost one of my very best friends. I would venture to say I wouldn't be playing steel if it wasn't for Ed. Ed and I talked almost every day and I was constantly amazed by him.Like a lot of you Ed gave me parts for free and he also did a lot of free work on both of my Pro 111's. God Bless ImaJean Ed's wife,His Mother and the rest of his family. I like to think the world is a better place because of people like Ed.

Ed told me, he had Sugar Diabetes, very high sugar numbers and didn't like to take injections. He also had very high blood pressure .
He was always thinking of the future of steel guitar, His family, and his dogs.

He was just too busy to take care of himself, so he could be better able to help others.
He will be missed. My condolences to his family......al

This is horrible news. Ed should have been Knighted for his undying compassion and mercy towards animals that were homeless, abused, stray, lost or abandoned.
There are MANY best friends of Man, that are alive and well today due to Ed's love for them.

Rest in peace Ed, you opened some eyes, and recruited a few more champions to the cause.

Ed sure was a big character here..
I never bumped into him at conventions,
but his presence on the forum was quite as if I had met him face to face.

Yes so far this year it has been quite scary to look in Extended Family.
Imagine Donna, she HAS to look all the time, no breaks.

Because for many of us the forum is very much an extended family.
One that is aging, and generally much older than the general population.

Well we lost another today, and maybe more soon, hope not, but that's a bit of a forlorn hope.
At least we can hope it's quite ah while from now anyway.

RIP Ed, you will be missed

Like everyone else this is totally shocking. We had talked by phone as well. I sent a box full of old magazines like Country Hit Parade and mags from the 50-60's to have at his store.

He was very proud of the room he set up for Roy Rogers, as he was from Ohio as well. I had an intent to go the the Roy Rogers museum here in the high desert while Dale Evans was still alive and perhaps get some things for Ed and most importantly an autograph from Dale that Ed could hang on his wall.

I just never got around to it, even tho I passed the museum coming and going from Los Vegas. I'll do it next time. Now time has run out. Both the museum and Ed are gone.

So long Ed. May you with God now.

I was only online long enough to read the news this AM.

I hope Ed is on his way to greater glory, and is at this time surrounded by his best friends, including the animals he loved so dearly that have also crossed over.

I think we are given time before the great blinding flash to be in their company, but that's just my theory.

You are matched with the compassion and love you have shown to the least of creatures.

That's another of my theories.

Now go back to walking around your favorite lake, or playing fetch with them, Ed. You have yet a while before your flight leaves.

We were given dominion over the beasts of the earth, much like our heavenly father has over us. Through excersizing ours properly we learn more about his.

That's something I think Ed spent a lot of time helping us learn. I liked reading his posts.

Anyhow, my prayers for his family friends and pets.

I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of Ed Naylor. I must have known him for 30
or 40 years. --- Make no mistake; he has been on the steel guitar stage for many more years than that. He was a good steel technician of the workings of the steel.

Many folks will miss him! Boogie Sherrard

I too will miss Ed . I talked to him last year about the things he held dear, animals and people. He steered me in what kind of steel to buy and he also had some of the best legs for guitar seats that I've seen. His Mother was the post Master at 80 years old, in the small town. Our prayers will be for his kindness Tonight Pam and Ray

Ed's passing is a great loss to the steel guitar community and the animal world.

Everything relative to Steel guitar and helping animals was his lifes work. His contributions to both was exceptional, and inspiring.

Mission accomplished my friend, you truly made a difference.

This is horrible news

There is no way to describe how I feel that hasn't been said by others before me. Ed was the first person to really reach out to me when I started playing, doing everything he could to get me a steel and accessories within my very meager budget. In the years after, he was very interested in my development and always lent a hand in helping me find my next steel, or parts for an existing steel (including calling other people he knew on my behalf). Anytime I passed through Ohio, I made sure to stop by and visit Ed, and he and his wife (and cat!) were always happy to see my wife and I.

Ed will always be someone that I will remember as a very good friend and the man that got me started on pedal steel.

God bless you, Ed. The pedal steel community has suffered another huge loss.

I am giving him a BARKER lap steel and he seems really interested in learning Steel. This will be interesting. Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works.

My condolences to the family. I have know Ed since the early 60's , I had the pleasure of meeting his mother, brother and Imogene. Ed was always one to offer help in any way he could. I know many local people here that Ed gave a lift on the way up, never asking for anything in return. I remember when he introduced the "Pedasonic" steel and had them in his music store, His Jeep dealership and the guys that worked for him. Always a quick step and a smile. We spent many hours talking about the steel guitar industry if such a thing exists. I will always be thankful for the hours we spent swaping stories, these are the memories I will always have.

Wish to say that I am sorry to here about Ed's passing and my prayers are with his family. I met Ed in January when I was thinking about building a pedal steel. I drove about a 150 miles to Bentonville, and spent a couple hours with him. Bought a few parts for a steel that I had. He ask me if I cared to wait till he went to feed and walk the dogs at his kennel. He said that he went everyday at 11:30 AM to do this. He gave us directions to Wal-Mart and asked us to be back in an hour. We had a good conversation about building steels, and about what it would cost. He showed me a lot of the parts that he had for steels, and believe you me he had parts. I also met the homeless man that he was caring for. Also met the two cats that ran his office. He had a couple steels there that someone built. A steel that once belonged to Jeff Newman, and a bunch more sitting around, and some that he was building. Last week Ed gave me a call and asked if I was still wanting to build a steel, and I told him that I was going to hold off for a while and try to learn to play the Sho Bud Pro III custom that I had. He ask me to stay in touch, and if I changed my mind to let him know. Ed will be missed by all that knew him. He had a heart bigger than he was.

I just got in, after a long, long weekend. This is difficult to believe. Ed was such a nice guy, although I hadn't known him long, he was a good friend. I met him about 10 years ago at Stoney's Smokey MT. Jamboree in Knoxville. Over the last few years, I bought a lot of stuff from him, always got a good deal, Ed was a man of his word. And I never called him, that I didn't have to end the conversation, I think he would have talked to me all day long. He will truly be missed.
