This is another sad moment for our steel guitar community. I took seriously his thread about a new "Mavrick" course and had worked-up some arrangements for him. I was just getting ready to put them in the mail when I saw this post. Now I will play "How Great Thou Art" in memory of him, and hope that he is getting the heavenly reward he so richly deserves. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God bless you all. L.A. |

L.A. Wunder... I still think is a great idea. All the money to go to EDs cause, The Animals he love so much. There has to be enough songs out there to at least put 10 songs about animals on a CD.And put them up for sale at the shelters and the Forum Title; Animal Songs on A Maverick |

I never knew Ed, except for the posts that he left here. I did a search on his name and saw that he posted here the day before he died. I don't know about you, but this passing makes me realize the importance of civility in a forum such as this. Considering some of the recent postings made here it made me understand that there may not be time to apologize for the angry or flippant remark said in haste. I for one will take Ed's passing as sign to watch my own postings especially here where the demographic leans towards the later half of a person's life. Rest in peace, Ed.[This message was edited by Bill McCloskey on 21 February 2005 at 01:45 PM.] |

My condolences to his wife and family. Ed and I had spent time together while he was in Nashville. At the time he was helping Bobbe Seymore at Steel Guitar World. It got to the point when we went to Nashville we were going to see Ed and spend some time with him. He always charged the batteries for Steel Guitar and Country Music. Ed you will be missed. |

I never met Ed personally but did have the pleasure of talking to him on the phone several times in the last year. Ed was interested in the old Multi-Kords as I am. I sent him some information I had about the inventors the Harlin Bros. The phone rang one day and it was Ed. He appreciated the info I sent him and wanted me to listen to him play some Merle Travis stuff on his Steel right there on the phone. I was honored that he would think to do a thing like that for a person he never met. I will surely miss Ed and his posts. May he rest in peace and my condolences to his family. You are in our prayers. Danny |

I am so sorry I never got to meet Ed in person. Like Tony Davis mentioned, Ed built my grandson TYLER, a little 6 string pedal steel for a Christmas present about 5 years ago. Just a few days ago I got a message from another Forum member (Steve Kritz) that sent me a web page showing that little steel. http://www.greenapple.com/~ace1/index036.html You will be missed my friend - - - Skip |

Our condolences to Imogene & Ed's mom. They were so nice to us when we were up there. Ed will be missed by us all. He was a good friend for a lot of years and I do appreciate his kindness to us especially during my recovery when he would call and offer help if needed. We love you Imogene. Barney & Mary |

I innocently called Ed a few years ago after I decided to take the PSG plunge. Without ego, he talked me through the options and shot the breeze for about an hour. What a nice guy.His posts and generosity will be greatly missed. Cant even recollect how often I heard of him sending off antiquated parts half way across the globe GRATIS just because a forumite needed it. Finally, his unending devotion to helping the helpless animals was sooooo beautiful. Not sure of his familys financial sittuation, but it would be great if we could make a group donation in his name to an animal charity in his neck of the woods. If its true that you get to see all your four legged freinds in heavan.........I guarantee there is a sloddery renuion going on right now. Fare thee well Mr. Naylor. Matt |

Somehow I missed this post and found the post on Ed's funeral arrangements and thought someone was pulling a joke, until I read it. Ed was one person I never envisioned being gone from the forum. The steel guitar world and especially this forum has suffered a great loss. My prayers go out to Ed's family. |

I never got to meet Ed but I spoke to him a couple of times last year on the phone. By reading all of his posts on this Forum, I feel like I've known him a long time and I appreciated the care that he had for animals and the steel guitar community. May God watch over his family and we members, as another family of his, will miss him also. Rest in peace, my friend. Ray Qualls |

Rescued a dog today. Plan to adopt him. Owners were evicted, moved, and neglected him and he was running down a county hiway, trying to get to his old home. Nothing but bones and fur. He'll get a good home, one way or another. I hope Ed was watching. It's a small miracle that the dog wasn't hit. We followed him for over 1.5 miles down that highway centerline before we coaxed him into the car. -andy-

This is sad news to me to hear Ed Naylor passed away, he really inspired me and taught me alot about how a steel guitar is built and how sound was built into them, I even saw his Nashville LTD D10 that he built for everyone, He will be surely missed, but as Gary Phillips says he is playing his steel guitar with God. steveb. |

The first time I ever saw/heard someone play a pedal steel it was Ed Naylor who was sitting behind it. He had a few of his steels at a vintage guitar show in Northern KY, must have been winter of 1996. I didn't play steel at the time but I sure was blown away by what I heard this old guy doing. I remember very clearly, as we packed up the show and loaded out, Ed was in the back of the hall playing one of his steels through a giant Leslie, sounded so cool, if only I'd known then what I know now. I am sad to hear about Ed's passing and send my condolences to his family. |
