Thank you ,Scotty for being there with Jerry. My condolences go out to Jack and the whole family.

Jerry and I both spent some time in Ohio prior to WWII. Me in Cleveland and Jerry in Lima, with our little 6 string lap steels. He had a magic touch that no one can duplicate.

Jerry will live on in his recordings, forever.................al

Jerry now has the pure Peace, Love and Joy we all long for. I feel sure that Heaven's Big Band has a gold first-chair for Jerry. What I would give to be there for his first concert; And what a grand thing to look forward to some day hearing. As we celebrate Jerry's immeasurable Life with heavy hearts, I'm sure he is with old Friends who went before him and are all looking upon us with Joy beyond our imagination. My Prayers flow for Kaleo and Jerry's Family and Friends as we search for Jerry's Joy and Presence to lighten our load; I am standing by for whatever I might do for you.

Aloha Oe, my Very Dearest Hero and Friend.

My uncle, Doug Seymour just emailed me and stated, "Every steel player everywhere has been touched by Jerry, whether he or she knows it or not",

Yes, where would steel guitar be today without Jerry Byrd's influence? Would there have been a Buddy? A Curley? A steel on Webb's "Slowley"???? I wouldn't be here, and probably wouldn't have had as good a life, nor would many of you reading this now. So, thank you Jerry, I'll miss you deeply and remember every note I ever heard you play!

Merv Shiner recorded a song back in the 1950's titled..We'll take a little Silver from the Blue Hawaiian skies and change them for stars made out of Gold.

Jerry played steel on the cut. So The Gold has returned into the heavens.

God Bless His Soul and comfort his family.

Life is a living seed which is sown in order to produce a multiplied harvest. And what an extraordinary seed Jerry Byrd was. An unselfish, caring, even though exacting teacher, who shared his talents with many. He has passed and I'm saddened and somehow feel empty, but the fruit of his life will continue producing for generations. May our heavenly Father keep him in his hand.

My sincere condolences go out to Jerry's family. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him in St. Louis several years ago. Jerry was the original staff steeler here at the Renfro Valley Barn Dance that opened in 1939. I am fortunate to be playing on the same stage where Jerry, early in his career, started making history. I think it is time to take one of my old Rickenbacher laps to the Barn Dance as a tribute to Jerry.

Please add my thoughts and prayers to those of the others.
I first heard Jerry Byrd playing in 1948.
His sound is that I hear when I think of steel guitar.
There was never a finer player or teacher.
He has left a legacy of recordings and teaching materials that will show the future generations of steel players the wonderful capabilities of the instrument.

Jerry Byrd has been the greatest influence on my learning of the Steel Guitar since 1948! And I'm glad I had the pleasure of being in his presence many times during the time I lived in Honolulu in ’80. I have several letters from him since then, which I will always cherish! He was always willing to answer any questions that I had. He will be greatly missed! Aloha & Mahalo Jerry. R.I.P.

Jerry was one of the 1st non country players I ever heard,
and he set the standard in my head for most all time.

There are some fine players in the world these days..
but ALL of them to my knowledge give loving tribute to Jerry Byrd.

I will miss his presence on this planet, but am glad his musical legacy
will live on, and give pleasure to many in the future.

Jerry is gone, but his vibrations will live on!
