Ok,tues.am,i got my pro1 all tore down.it use to be a pretty green,but faded out now.as been talked about much,how the sho-bud colors did.when i removed the neck,it was nice under there.The wood is so pretty birds eye. NOW,my question,how to start removing that green???
I'M open for suggestions!!!wonder if the green is soaked in the wood,or would sand off easy,or whatever,I have some ideas,but like to hear others. I don't know what color i will put it back,depends on the out come of the cabinet.

Any one have suggestions?????? farris

Farris, get in you a spot that isn't obvious, probably under the neck and sand you a small spot. The guy that builds PedalMaster guitars told me that the people that builds his cabinets put 17 coats of laquer on his guitars.. So you may have to sand more than you expect.. I have read that food coloring was used to color some of the old Sho-Buds and that that was why they tend to change colors when they are in the light a lot. Don't know if it was mixed with water or what.

I think on the endplates that I would use some sandpaper instead of a router. To hard to set it up and cut straight with the router. Also if it jumps in your hand you can take a chunk out all at once. With the sandpaper and maybe a file you can control the roll that you are probably wanting. You can take a long piece of sandpaper and use it like a shoe shine rag and cut the devil out of the corners. Then use some fine sandpaper soaked with water and polish the marks out..

FERRIS, USE COMMERCIAL GRADE STRIPPER, TO REMOVE THE FINISH,,[ FASTER ] SAND AS LITTLE AS POSSABLE. [ ELIMINATES WAVEYNESS ] USE CHOLORX OR BLEACH TO REMOVE STAIN [ WATER STAIN OR ALCOHL ] BLEACHES WOOD GOOD... THEN SAND VERY LIGHTLTY, APPLY NEW STAIN [ IF ANY ] APPLY SANDING SEALER, THEN THE TYPE OF FINISH THAT YOU PREFER...YOU MUST KEEP OUT OF DUST AND DIRT WHEN REFINISHING..A MUST.... JUST A NOTE. SOME INSTRUMENTS WERE FINISHED WITH A HARD PLASTIC TYPE FINISH..SIMULAR TO A FURNITURE FINISH.....HARD TO WORK WITH....MAYBE YOU CAN STRIP THE CABNET OF ALL HARDWARE, AND HAVE IT " DIPPED " LIKE FURNITURE REFINISHERS DO...JUST A THOUGHT...
HAVE FUN,,,,JW,,,,,,,U PK:::::::::::::::::
