Great news! Just had a communication from the great Buddy Cage, advising us that he plans on attending our 30th Annual PSGA show in Norwalk, CT this weekend. He will not perform, but he intends to be present either on Nov. 8th or 9th. This is a great bit of news, especially for dedicated Cage fans.

Bob, this is great news. Very cool.

I'm looking forward, to the entire weekend! I should be arriving, sometime Friday night. Staying the entire weekend, this year.

I never had a response to my original question:

"Is Scotty the only non-pedal player on the show?"

I just checked the schedule on PSGA website and don't even see Scotty on the list!

According to the list Scotty is scheduled to play.

Unfortunately, Scotty will not be able to attend our show after all. He had planned to fly into Westchester County airport and was quoted a $200 air fare. By the time he tried to book the flight the fare had risen to almost $700 and still climbing. At that point he advised us he would drive to Norwalk from St. Louis.

To make a long story short, as Scotty explained it, his recently acquired Toyota Van is experiencing very serious mechanical problems and he's having a problem getting satisfaction from the dealership where he made the purchase. Since the main problem involves the vehicle's braking system, Scotty wisely chose to excuse himself from our line up of players, rather than attempting to drive the 1800 mile roundtrip. We shall certainly miss his being with us and hope he will be able to attend our event next year. As stated on all our announcements of our show "Subject to change without notice".

BTW, in Scotty's absence, Jerry Fessenden has consented to perform. Jerry has played our show before and was well-received. He was also next on the list of back up players. Regarding non-pedal performers: Gene Fields might be playing his combination lead/steel (non-pedal I think) which is built on the chasis of the Fender PS-210 that he designed. He plays the lead portion flat a la Thumbs Carlille and does one heck of a job. Talk about a talented musician.

The unique steel that Gene played at the last Dallas show was a GFI with a 10 string steel neck and an 8 string Spanish neck, with pedals and levers.

Hey fellow New Yawkers! It looks like I'll be attending my very first PSGA event. My wife Colette said "Let's go! It sounds like fun!".

So if owning a bar and finger picks qualifies me to attend... I'm in.

If you are from NY please e-mail me and I'll try to introduce myself to you. I'm the guy who bought the Multi-Kord on E-bay before joining the Forum...You'll recognize me by the saliva dripping from my mouth as I drool over the Emmons, Sho-Bud's, GFI etc etc on dislplay.

My only fear is that, after hearing y'all play, I will come home and in a moment of self-loathing take an ax to my guitar and never try to play again.

To get serious for the moment, which is not often.I want to say that I am so sorry I couldn't attend this show and moreso sorry that I was unable to perform as Bob had asked me to.

I was scheduled to perform when I had a change in plans,I would have enjoyed seeing some old friends as well as meeting those of you face to face.

I always enjoy the backup band who work so hard to satisfy each performer and they do it non stop every year.

If god spares I hope that Bob will again ask me to peform again in the future. It would be my pleasure to do that and meet some of you people face to face.

I believe for a special reason I would welcome playing the PSGA show next year. That would be a special event for me.

You see I can be serious sometimes.

Sorry I missed the show and my friends like Howard and Mike Gross, they add what makes the show what it is and all of you count as much as the rest who participated.

Many Happy Wishes for a Healthy and Happy
Thanksgiving.

The show was fantastic...I could only make Sunday, but what a great lineup, amazing backing band and so many great performances. I missed Jerry and Jim's sets (®ßƒ?†?¡), but heard the rest from Sonny on. Great variety of music, too; I was delighted to hear so much excellent C6th playing as well as incredible E9 stuff from these masters. Too many highlights to list. Nice environment to hear music and to meet these great players as well. Excellent job!!!

My wife and I had a wonderful time! Spent lots of cash at the tables. A novice such as myself could never do justice in trying to describe the goose bumps created by 5 steel guitar masters jamming on Saturday Night. We had to get to church on Sunday otherwise we'd have stayed all weekend.
Summary:
1) Friendly, helpful professionals who took the time to answer my sometimes ignorant questions at their tables and who played their butts off for us on stage.

2) Warm friendly atendees as well. Highlight for this tee-totaler was bumping into Pat Brunneimer's husband at the bar and finding out there were other Multi-Kord owners at the show.

You guys all have real class! Thanks!

Thanks to all who attended and supported our 30th Anniversary show. It was the best we've ever done. Each of the performers did an excellent job. Of particular note was Randy Beavers. What a talent! He was playing C6th stuff on the E9th tuning using the 9th string(D) as the root note for an FMajor 7th chord along with the A & B pedals and knee levers. When he switched back and forth from E9th to C6th you couldn't tell the difference. His Nashville E9th playing was also superb. There were many new faces in the audience this year, as well as a lot of old friends. Thanks to everyone who supported our efforts and thanks to all those who posted on the forum.

Bob,

My thanks to you and everyone at the PSGA for such a great show. The programming of the show was absolutely perfect from start to finish.

Regarding Randy Beavers, if it wasn't for the video screen, I would have never guessed he was playing all of that rich harmony on E9. He is a true virtuoso and genius of the pedal steel guitar.

Firstly, I'd like to extend my congratulations to the PSGA and all the folks who've worked so hard for THIRTY YEARS to keep bringing out the best in steel guitar music. Not only is the annual show one of the very best in the country (and always has been), but the newsletter is always full of good, interesting, useful information, and comes out 10 times a year, on time, without fail, for THIRTY YEARS! Folks, this is no small feat, as anyone who has attempted any of these tricks can attest. So my hat(not to mention most of my hair) is off to Bob, Jeff, John, Frenchie, Clay, Tony, and so many others who over the years have made PSGA what it is today; one of the most vital steel guitar organizations in the world. I'm proud to be a long-time member and occasional performer on their shows.

Someone above asked for photos: here's one of the "Offical PSGA Blindfold Test"

L to R: Randy Beavers, John Hughey, Moi-Meme, and Tommy Cass.

Dan, I consider the result of the test to have been positive, since people usually cover their ears and not their eyes when I play. Actually, I seem to have given all three of these stellar steel guitarists a splitting headache, all at the same time. And my music teacher said I wasn't talented! Hah! That'll show her!

Thanks so much to all who made time to come and support the PSGA show this past weekend in Norwalk, CT. I was really pleased with the support from all the familiar faces as well as a lot of new young faces in our audience this year.
The kind words about the show from so many people make all the work worth it.
All of us at the PSGA will continue to put on the best steel shows we possble can in the future.
Thanks again,

The blindfold test wasn't for the guitars, it was to see if these guys could tell whether it was Jimbeaux or Buddy Emmons at the steel.

Yes Jim does really play great. I like the Beach Boys stuff he does. Jim plays a lot of material that you dont hear other players perform and one of the things that makes him stand out. He also has great tone.

Wow, what a long ride back to Florida!!!
I want to thank Bob,John,Jeff & Darlene for a super year.
This was by far one of the best PSGA shows over the 30 years of the PSGA.
I especially want to thank the PSGA for the honor of my receiving the Clay Savage Memorial Appreciation Award for the year 2003.

I, too, must add my thanks to all who attended the PSGA show. We, as officers, do this work out of love and addiction to the steel guitar. But, without our members support, we could not have these great shows.I, personally, thought that this show was one of our best. The performers were ALL, top of the line. So many different styles and sounds to listen to. It was almost mind boggle-ing. I think that there was a favorite for everyone to savor. I know I have mine!! Again, thank you all for attending, and making it a magnanamous event.

I just wanted to add my two cents worth. As most of you know, I do quite a few steel guitar shows around the country, usually around 25 per year. This past weekend in Norwalk was one of the best yet. Everything about this show was strictly first class. Bob, Jeff, John and all the others really know how to run a professional show. Now I am noted for saying what I think, and I am going to now. As long as I have been playing steel guitar, there are special musical moments for me personally and Sunday at Norwalk was one of those times. I owe it all to the great backup band. I cannot remember when I actually enjoyed playing as much. The band makes all the difference in how I play at a particular time. These guys were really on and I had what I personally call a "musical high", and I don't get these very often. Now let me clarify, since I don't drink or do drugs, this is the only high I can have. When we finished playing "Almost Like Being In Love", I had to get my breath, as the band again just blew me away. Larry Eagle is, without a doubt, one of the finest drummers I have ever worked with. I will shut up for now, but I certainly enjoyed this show more than I can express. I hope to never have to miss one.

I'm back and I survived NYC! What a show! They've had 30 years experience of running this club and they know what they're doing. The band and staff could not have been better. I agree with Herby, this was one of my highlights.

Judy and I spent 3 days in NYC after the show vacationing. What a great city! After we got a handle on the sub-way system we went everywhere. I've never walked so much. These people are tough.

Thanks again to everyone at the PSGA for having me at your show.

If anyone made an audio tape of the Saturday Nite Super Jam at the Norwalk Convention I would be very grateful to obtain a copy.
I would gladly pay for blanks and postage as is the tradition in the world of Grateful Dead tape trading.
Thanks again to all the organizers and players for throwing a great convention.

I'd also like to add my thanks to Bob, Jeff and John and all the others that made the show such a success. My wife and I enjoyed meeting a lot of new friends and seeing some old ones too. Thanks to the band, you were terrific. We had to leave early on Sunday because of the long trip home (10 1/2 hours) but we really had a great time. Thank you John (and you know who you are) for giving me the George and Tammy album that I didn't have. I really appreciate it. Thanks again Bob for your invitation. Hope to see you again next year. www.sonnycurtis.net
