Hi all!

I am an aspirant pedal-steeler...

I have the possibility to buy an used instrument Sierra Artist S-10 at $795

What about this instrument ?
This have only two knee and three pedal; it's a significant limitation ?

What in comparison for example with a CarterStarter ?

many thank for your help/suggestions.

Btw, because I'm from Italy (in Italy) I'll have to buy blindly becuase in my country pedal-steel are like UFO

Giorgio,

Is the steel located in Europe or in The U.S?
If it is located in the U.S you should add shipping, insurance and possible tax you have to pay.If it's located in Europe you would have the same problem but since the steel already is in Europe that amount wouldn't be that high.

But $795 would get you a Carter Starter which has 3 pedals and 4 knees.
If you ask me I would go for a Carter Starter.

Ciao Giorgio,
Buongiorno amico. Good luck with your purchase. It doesn't sound like too bad of a price to me, E non troppo carro, and you should be able to get started just fine with 2 knee levers.
I will email you with some more info, and if I can help you in any way, let me know. I have a girlfriend in Bologna, and have been there a couple of times so I can appreciate the "UFO" comment.
Stammi bene amico mio. Spero parlare con te subito.
Ciao ciao,

Giorgio,

I agree - you would be better off with a 3 X 4 guitar.

I was looking at this one myself on the Carter website this morning - it is a mighty pretty instrument! I imagine Carter's shop could handle adding additional knee levers but you could probably find a full-featured S-10 for less than what the total cost for that would be.

Keep checking the Forum ads - some nice instruments come across there.

best of luck,

David

A Sierra Artist 3+2 is a good deal at $795.

I'm moving this to the Pedal Steel section because it's not a classified ad.

I've owned one since c. 1981; I like it better than my D10 Sierra (wish it had a 2nd neck). ---j---

The Sierra Artist is not a student model. You can change the copedent on it, and if I remember correctly it has a triple raise, triple lower changer. It's very lightweight, but it's non-traditional all-aluminum design didn't really catch on with the steel playing public.

It should be pretty easy to add an extra lever or two. I don't think the Artist is still being made, but they might stiil have the parts in stock. http://sierrasteels.com

thank you all for the info ...
in fact I'm realizineg that purchaising from USA imply extra costs too high for my budget at the moment... and too many problems with taxes/sutom starnge extra fee requested ...

I just contacted the links in Europe you suggested (Netherland / Germany) but infortunately I didn't got any feedbacks.

Any your (Europeans I guess) suggestion are welcome for point out any possible seller suitable for delivery in Italy (alaso an used instrument).

thank you
giorgio
