Patrick I already tried the average age but at the time there were only about 40 replies. As for range and standard dev......whatever it is someone else can have the job. I'll try again when I think everyones posted and told the truth about their age.

I guess I'm next to the oldest. I'M 69 and I'm sorry to say, that country music is dying faster than I am.Used to be ,going out and having a cold beer and listening to some good country music was something to enjoy. ,But I'm afraid its about gone. Nothing left but tapes.and may;be a steel convention.

Regardless of what amount of detritus my dear friend Wayne Yakes wants to distribute around the forum, I remain a very young, vital, and exciting 52!

Well lets see, I posted this back last July and had 162 responses and they averaged 49.5 years old. Now I'm 57, a year older, and it looks like the average might be a little younger. Hum, whats wrong with this picture? I think I'm going in the wrong direction. Someone turn me around!!!!! Ray Qualls

I said when I grow up I want to be a steel player. Somebody corrected me and said to make up my mind, what do I want to do grow up or be a steel player!

I know I'm growing older anyway - - 48 now.

In hindsight we should have kept the calculation of the average going with each person recalculating as he/she sends a reply. Oh well, interesting thread anyway.

Intermediate Summary Time!

The mean (average) to this point (of 139 entries) is 48. The standard deviation is 13.

But are steel players mean? I don't think so.
Are they average? Probably not.
Standard? Lots play the old standards.
As for deviation? Uh, I'm not going to go there.

Always believed in the power of the average, so I'm 48. I'll check back after the rest of the posts.
