Bobbe Seymour,

Please take into account,in your final analysis of recurrent .011 string
breakages, the variables which defy
explanation.

Bobbe Seymour,

" OK guys, the test is going on as we
speak." Seawater has been lapping at
the ship of knowledge, and the mooring has torn free. Could you post the test
results, before this titanic collection
of related posts, sinks below the
horizon?

I'm sure Bobbe will be happy to post his results . . . speaking of RESULTS, what about the pictures we've been asking for for more than two weeks?

I'm tired . . . Bill, if you are attempting to keep our concentration, YOU'RE LOSING IT.

It appears that the data obtained in this test has brought up another question or two and is not as straight forward as was first thought. We have a metalergical engineer coming in to decipher the results of this extensive test. The results will be worth the short wait and will be conclusive,to end all.

Bobbe,

As Pat Burns seemed to hint, this finger-pulling jig that tests the .011" string, needs to emulate an audible gastronomic expulsion every time it cycles.

I don't see how it could offend anyone. I mean, it's not like you were, say___fully executing the "pull my finger trick" after Thanksgiving dinner with all the family and relatives present.

The absence of this sound could also alarm you if there happened to be an interruption in it's proper function;___just a thought.

Jody Carver,

You of all people must know that dreams
can become reality, the day you,
by the remotest of chances, located the
multi-neck Fender straight steel that
parted company with you, years before.
I remember the time years ago, when the
owner of a music store in Pittsfield,
Ma. brought up your name, and went on
to stress your great abilities. As I
registered surprise hearing his input,
he must have mistaken my facial change
to be one of arrogance. He then let
fly with, "You don't think he can teach
anything?" I was too stunned to reply.

Bill,,,Im trying to think of the dealer in Pittsfield,,,I really dont know what the conversation was about between that fellow and yourself. Iam enjoying this topic and ,,,YES I do believe in dreams,,,,my humor
in a few posts were only meant as just that.

And in no manner did I mean any dis-respect for you,,,Iam well aware of Bill Hankey and have heard nothing but the best from the "best" about you. Iam not really understanding of what your post means.

As for Gene's comments,,,Gene is one person I hold the highest regard for, both as a top flight steel player as well as a great human
being. I guess you would say we have a "mutual admiration for each other. Iam one of the many who feel that way about Gene Jones,,,Bill if I offended you in any way re my posts,,Im sorry ,,I only meant it to be humorous. I made my living from someone who years ago had a dream,,,he helped make many millions of peoples dreams come true as well. Leo Fender fed my family and helped me raise two children,,,,because he too had a dream.

Think of all the people who benefited by Leo Fenders ideas,,,musicians,,,store keepers, salespeople etc etc,,,,so YES I do believe in dreams...carry on now,,,Iam truly sorry if I offended you in any way,,

Fondest best wishes,,,Jody Leo's dream is still alive and well and his guitars are still making a living for many many people.

hey how did I get off on this anyhow??? that soap box again......I had better get off,,or
I should have been a politician,,,,,,Oh God NO not that....be well and Dream a Little Dream of me,,,

Hi Jody,

Thank you for the kind words in your
reply. I was hoping to hear from you,
and I appreciate the time that was
taken by you to respond to the favorable
comments that have been made.

Just about everyone in Pittsfield, knows
"Lou". He is the person, who at one time
sold musical instruments here in our
city of 50,000 people. He is the one
who enjoyed projecting assertive views.
At the time your name was mentioned, he
was trying to put together a seminar,
featuring steel guitarist Ray Ganteck.
I checked with him at a later date, to
learn that Ray's scheduling prevented
the show from culminating to fruition.

"Lou" operates an auto sales dealership
here in Pittsfield. The music store is
no longer managed by "Lou." I will stop
by his sales office someday soon, and
hopefully learn from him, how he was
able to speak as though he had known of
your ablities as a steel guitarist. It
would be for the sake of curiosity. As
I am sure you will agree, now and then
our memories become a little blurred at
times.

Jody, your good name is synonymous with
steel guitar, determination, and hard
work. I'm so delighted to have heard
from you on this post. Bill H.

Bill,,,,I do recall a Lou in one of the shops I called on back years ago, will try to remember,,,thanks for the nice compliments
at least someone thinks Im a nice guy,,,I keep telling em Iam,,,they wont believe me.

Only kidding,,,but this has been a great thread,,,I really didnt have anything of educational value to say,,,that why I wise cracked,,,,I dont use Metamucil btw. Be well
and check with Lou,,,,I am going to need a car,,,Im still driving my Pre CBS Chevy Caprice,,,,( no kidding) 450,000 miles on it.

Leo rebuilt the engine for me...years back it is "candy apple red" with Fender tweed upholstery,,,,,has a tremolo arm for the shift stick,,,,gas pedal is an old volume foot pedal,,,,real cool car.....But I do have
that Chevy,,,need my e mail,,,,I will send it

I only hide it as Iam in the "Witness Protection Program at present,,,,but my time is almost up,,,,,,edited for spelling..sorry

Bill,,,,I posted the above at 8.44 am Sept 11 th
eastern daylight savings time.

I went down for breakfast and to take my two pups out as I had cancelled a doctors app't earlier yesterday morning.

That appointment was on Vesey Street a few blocks from the WTC. If I had not cancelled
the appointment, I would have not posted the
above to you.

My appointment was for 9.15 am...I just see
that the very moment or so that I posted to you,,,that horrendous event was unfolding at
that very moment just a few blocks from where
I was to be at that time.

It was my good fortune to cancel due to not feeling well,,,,my prayers are with those who
met that disaster at that moment.

Its funny because I will always remember what
I was doing at the very moment that the terrible thing happened,,and I was posting to you.

I recall where and what I was doing when JFK
was killed. I remember where and what I was doing when RFK lost his life.

I will always remember Sept 11 2001 and what I was doing at that moment as well, I was writing to you. God Bless all those people
who met such a horrible fate.

And thank you for a most enjoyable thread. I enjoyed particpating in it,,,and glad to see
you understand my sense of humor as well.

Thanks be well my friend,my very best to you and yours Jody

Jody,

My gratitude to you for sharing your recent horrific experience of a
magnitude that is indescribable. There
was rampant jeapardy lurking, and your
proximity to the danger, and its
dreaded mass destruction, will be forever heralded, by those who realize
that inexplicable accounts, such as
yours, is truly a miracle.

Your friend,

Forum members,

If you have experienced 3rd string
breakage recently, using the E9th
chromatic tuning, please let me hear
from you. It would be helpful, if you
include the instrument's make and model.
I've been leaning on the original .011
string, which is representative of the
"Lucky 7's" efficacy.
Bill H.

Bobby Lee,

Please allow me to say that my sympathy
for the 9-11 victims increases with each
passing day. Thank you, Bill H.

Bill...I still think this is a great thread.
To get serious for a change,,I have been using a 0.10 guage for my third string,,,I have had a problem at times (wrong times) I have to change this string often as the raising does take some of the body out of the string due to the excessive pulling.

When this occurs,,,the volume of this 3rd string suffers by comparison to the other strings,,,,I have however had this problem for years.

I use that guage as well on the non pedal guitar and natrually do not encounter the same problem for obvious reasons. Again Bill
this is a great thread look at all the replies you recieved over just "one string"
Thanks for your nice comments I do appreciate
them & you as well...had to edit have an Emmons PP guitar,,,,hurry up with the cure I only have one string left,,,Im all "strung out"...

Slick,

I can assure you that if my heart goes
on beating, I would be delighted to
send regular photos to anyone who is
willing to e-mail their home address.
As you know, the same day development
is a simple process.
Compliance in this regard is
not difficult. "THE LUCKY 7" is doing
great!! A large number of steel owners,
for reasons of cosmetic perfection, may
reject the concept of add-ons, that
extend beyond the scope of traditional
envisaging. The search goes on for a
solution to this 3rd string enigma.

S.G.F.M.,

I've mailed two photos over this past
week-end, 9/15/01, and 9/16/01 to fill
requests made to view the "Lucky 7".
I hope this proves beyond a shadow of a
doubt, that I'm making no reservations,
or stipulations in regard to showing
the 1" x 1" contrivance. For those who
receive a 35 mm photo from me, feel
free to post as you like.

I am currently introducing an add-on
within a add-on. This will be a tiny
tubular "guide, approx. 1" in length.
This feature will assure the player of
a quick method to replace strings, for
whatever reason. Once the .011 enters
the easily accessible aperture, the
mini-tubing guides it to the area just
slightly below the apex of the changer
bridge. When I install the add-on, it
is possible that a slight manipulation
will point the tip of the string to
the apex of the finger as it passes
through the mini-guide. Intricate
parts added to the "Lucky 7" may be
something to consider in the future.

Bill H.

photos can be mailed. Have a great
