The wife bought me that shirt, she thought it would go well with the Fender. (Maybe she thought if I wore a 'hot' shirt, I'd become a 'hot' player...)
Hasn't happened yet....

Fun thread!

Luckily I don't have to wear it everytime we play! Our bandleader bought 4 of these on Ebay. The story is that the jackets were worn by Roy Clark's band in the 60s or 70s. I guess it could be true!

Jay, that is the all time best match-up of shirt to guitar! Outstanding.

I also loved the pearly, old-timey jacket with the wood laminate. Very nice look.

I thought one of the Hawaiian guys needs a birdseye blue Carter to complete the look.

Some of you need more steels. I mean, you can't wear the same shirt all the time!

Dave,David.Larry Bell,Larry Robbins,Thumbs up to you guys.My biggest pet peeve is to see an entertainer that has no pride in the way he or she looks on stage.I think it's a shame to see these so called super stars today walk on the stage of the [not so grand anymore]opry in their dirty jeans and tank tops looking like they just stepped out of a dumpster.Absolutely no respect for themselves or their fans.

Yeah, I've always thought old jeans or a funky shirt just didn't have any tone at all.

Quote I've never heard: "Man, that band can't play at all. Their shirts didn't match".

File under things that are musically irrelevant.

Every now and then I'll play a gig where I actually think I sounded halfway decent, and someone will come up to me after the show and say, "nice shirt." It's happened more than once!
Oh well, at least I looked good!

The loose, sweaty tanktop is not a good look for anybody, let alone a musician on stage.

Dressing decent IS relevant,It'not all about JUST the music,There is a term called SHOW business also. All the greats in country, pop, blues,or jazz realized that. The country artist with their Nudie suits, old Blue Eyes in his Tux,B.B.King in his suit and tie, even back to the great Jazz players, never saw a film clip of Charlie Parker without a suit on.Don't tell me dressing like you have pride in your self and your profession is NOT relevant,That dog won't hunt!!!

Charles, that my be true in certain circles, but not all. Look at the people you named and how dated that list is.

Mick Jagger seems to draw a decently large crowd. Never seen him sing in a tux. Neil Young wears ripped jeans and is worth millions (and gives a lot back to charity). And some fellow named Springsteen fills arenas wearing tank tops.

It's only relevant if you WANT it to be relevant. It doesn't mean a darned thing as far as music goes. And the type of "show business" described is, with the exception of some older talents (who can pull it off without looking lame) toast.

Yeah, I can see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in matching sportcoats...playing a gig at the VFW hall in Barstow.

But Nudie suits are cool, in a completely kitsch way.

Charles, I agree with you. I own three Marty Stuart band jackets from Manuel including one of the Jackets on Marty's "Tempted and Tried" video. You can see me at www.bbjack.com
People literally come to see me wear those jackets. Our whole band is a pretty well dressed band. I am a Buckaroos fanatic. I believe giving the audience (especially the women) someting to look at. Presentation to me is the biggest part of Show Business, not the music.

No Jim, because the music is a given and the easiest part of Show Business (if you have the right band organization and management). People are visually oriented and always have been. I'll use Elvis as an example, the Beatles, The Buckaroos, many others. John Lennon said that The Beatles would have been nothing without Brian Epstein because he knew how to PRESENT them. He gave them their image.

The upper 2 necks have strings and "woven" between the strings (one over, next under, next over...) are thin steel plates with (11), 1/16" inconel 718 rods welded (SiB) down the centers. These are bowed with a violin bow and struck with hammered dulcimer hammers. When I bow them, I can play the harmonics on the rod and that's what I'm doing in the photo. There are 6 sets of rods for a total of 66 rods. I have to memorize them as patterns when I play them.
