The Zirconia bars may come to life again. Below is the E-mail address of the chap that will/might make them. It was his company that was used to make the first batch, and HE made the first two as product proof.

He sold that company, and went into another line of business, but is restless and asked about a run of 500 pieces.

A little encouragement and he just might go for it...give him an E-mail with your thoughts and it might happen.

I encourage everybody to do whatever it takes to make this happen.

I collect bars, and have about 50 of them including BJS, Dunlop, George L., John Pearse, etc., but the zirc is the one I actually use all the time.

the "http://" needs to be stripped out first. It makes your browser think that it is a Web address, instead of an email address.

Thanks bob! Sorry 'bout that...used to using his web site:

In case you might want to see what Leo is into now. I suggested that he might want to get some bears made with PSG and standard guitar for sale at the show boutiques.

Well, I sent my email. I just hope a lot more send theirs. This may be one of the best opportunities yet to have these bars made. Thanks Ed, for passing the info on.

Hey Ed,
What about starting an "official" thread with a title something like "All those wanting a Zirc bar sign up here"
That way you can get a good head count. Plus, you can ask that there be no posts like, "man I sure liked the one I had in '92" It would be strickly a list of serious buyers................

Just a thought.

I seem to remember this came up before, but I can't find the thread.

An "I want one" list might be more useful if there was 1) some size info, and 2) a small detail - pricing?

I think the first round were $150 (?) each, and what with inflation I do remember that the figure of $250 was floated - jeez, I used to buy cars for that....

$250?

Yikes.

Pass.

I guess if i's one of those things you don't *know* you nedd, it's more a *want*. I don't want it that badly, other bars work fine.

Here's the old thread: http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum5/HTML/004752.html

When I found the price would be at least double that of my favorite BJS bar, I thought, "Ouch, but ok."

Now that there's talk of it costing three or four times as much, I'll have to pass.

The $250 figure was someones WAG as I recall..no way that would fly.

If someone wants to start an "I want a Zirc bar" thread, go for it...just keep it simple.

I will try to convince Leo that he needs to get on the Forum...then you can get straight to the horses mouth (he may not like being refered to as a horse).

Here we go again.
Alot of players seem to want these bars, and once they get made, they WILL ALL get sold.

So please, just do it.

Glad you made that comment about the price Ed. I did send Leo an email expressing interest. Hopefully there is a decent margin for him with a price that would keep everyone interested.

Keep bugging Leo with E-mail. He said that he was working with the material makers to get the right material.

Re sizes...I don't know, but the 15/16 seems to be the size of choice now. With the Zirc, you make the diameter, then cut the bar to whatever length. I don't think that Leo will understand the 10 string/12 string nominclature...come to think of it, I don't either.

Scotty had nothing to do with the Zircs, he does use one that he got from Bill Stafford.

Keep the pressure on Leo!!! The greater the raw material order quantity, the lower the price will be; The raw material is quite expensive in small quantities.

I am SO in!! I want one!

Are there any impressions or opinions on the Rajah bars or powder coated? While they might not be a nice as the Zirconia do they even approximate the smoother tone? (look at me asking if there is an opinion on this forum )
I did see Bud Carter using a red bar in a video on the Carter site.

I hope there is enough interest to drive down the price. $250 is out of the realm of possibility, at least for me... especially if there is only going to be one size available.

Keith et al...It has been posted that the $250 figure is someones (Forum member's) posted WAG. There will be an assortment of sizes if it goes...I suspect the first will be 15/16" X either (choice)3.50", or 3.75"; These are the sizes being talked on for first run.

Keep bugging Leo...e-mail address above.

Mark & all...Leo told me he expected to have test bars in about a month (evaluating different mfg's materials).

As he has received quite a few E-mails, individual answers to specific questions might be a problem...I suggested that he do a "blanket" answer here.
