I was stunned by the news of this tragedy and still find it so hard to accept. The pain and loss of a loved one is unbearable at this stage and my heart goes out to Fran and the family. I spent many happy days with Jeff at his previous location in Hermitage and witnessed the love and admiration for him on the faces of his students. At times he was harsh but just and whether he patted you on the back, slapped your hand, or threw your picks in the trash can, you went home a better person for it. You were a class act Jeff and I will cherish the memories.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Jeff personally. When I first read the news today, (only an hour or 2 after the tragedy) I had to get up and walk away. I had no words to post. They simply wouldn't come. My sincere sympathys to the family and the world of steel guitar. Our loss is Heaven's gain. When I was young man barely 19, I went off to Nashville to seek out my dream. I sat myself in a classroom with creatures like my own, and we awed at the man before us. Not tall but self assured he spoke with guided tounge, of the wonders that lie ahead and laced it all with fun. The world he opened up would change me evermore, N' I've forever kept him in my trust. Now I'm thinking back over the years how he never forgot my name, though 1 short week is hardly enough I also did the same. But who could ever lose the image of the man that gave you wings, and now he has a pair of his own. Someday we'll all be together playing 1-4-5, the doors he swung wide open so very much alive. The brothers, sisters and children of his knowledgge they too can pass it on, As we carve his name in stone.Godbless Chris Allen Burke |

Jeff was on the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame nominating committe and each time his name was brought up as a possible nominee to be voted on he opposed vigorously! In fact, he told the committee that if we voted him in as a secret inductee he would resign from the committee. His reasoning was that there were a lot more people that needed to be inducted that were more qualified than he. That was the kind of man Jeff was. Years later Jeff did consent to the nomination and he was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame in 1999. He was a great help in our research and it will be difficult to replace him. He will be sadly missed. DeWitt Scott, The Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame, Inc. President. |

This is sad news and a total shock! Jeff did several seminars here in Norway and have a lot of fans over here. I`ve been a guest at Jeff`s house and I really liked his kind of humour. Always a comment right on target. Fran - you and your family are in our thoughts.Tove & Dag[This message was edited by Dag Wolf on 08 April 2004 at 02:08 AM.] |

Very sad, indeed! My sympathies to both Jeff and his entire family. The fact that we are all immortal souls doesn't take away the emotional pain of physical death, however, but can be a comfort.Anders |
