![]() Well, I have to add my two cents again, since something was brought up about price. Let me say that in my opinion, the pricing is very fair and I think a bargain. In the Pigeon Forge area here where I live, the average price for the theatre shows in the area is $25.00 to $30.00, and this is for a 2 to 2 1/2 hour show, not to mention that half the shows don't even have a steel guitar in the band. Also, most of the shows are with local singers and musicians that are not name people. On the other hand, the PSGA show features some of the top steel guitarists in the country, and I am not speaking for myself but the other players on the show. Also, I do shows all over the US, Canada and Europe and the backup players are some of the finest I have ever worked with. For example, the drummer, Larry Eagle, just to name one is without a doubt one of the finest I have ever worked with. Also, the hotel is first class in every respect. Please don't let this comment about price keep anyone away as this again is a very reasonable price for a show of this calibur. Herby Wallace ------------------ |

![]() Howard I wont forget.I gave the gloves to Jackie Mason do to a DNA. Herby you are right, Larry Eagle flies like an eagle over those drums,he's a fine drummer [This message was edited by Jody Carver on 16 October 2005 at 04:31 AM.] |

![]() As a side comment on Herby's praise I also have to say that Larry Eagle is the favorite drummer of Bruce Springsteen. If you like or don't like Bruce, he still is considered a rock legend so again that is more praise for Larry and just an example on the talent of our back-up band at PSGA. ------------------ |

![]() I love working with Larry Eagle, as well as the rest of the PSGA staff band. I'm really looking forward to playing this year. Got a coupla new tunes to flight-test too. See ya there! J'beaux [This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 16 October 2005 at 12:53 PM.] |

![]() Hey Jim, and Mike, and Herby. Im looking forward to meeting listening to you guys again and again. Jim you have arrived as a monstor player since we last met back in 1988 I am proud to share the same stage with Hall Of Famer Herby Wallace and I hope one day in the not too distant future see Jim Cohen inducted into the HOF. There is room for a great player like YOU. Mike, what can I say? There is no one like Mike Gross. Luv you guys all of you and Larry Eagle is the Best and he can swing with the best of them. See you in November |

![]() Jody, Thanks for your kind comments regarding myself! You are much too kind to put my name into the same comment as with the super musicians that will be on the PSGA show but I do appreciate your kindness. To be able to introduce these players is simply an added pleasure to playing their recordings on "Swingin' West." ------------------ [This message was edited by Mike Gross on 17 October 2005 at 09:02 AM.] |

![]() Mike you are every bit as important as any of us. It is Mike Gross who has made many of us including myself known to your listeners by your featuring and promoting the cd's and recordings of all the those great players. You are too modest, You are with all of us in our one big family of musicians. They say Jody |

![]() Any show that has the likes of Herby Wallace amd Russ Hicks just to name a couple is good enough to cover the admission price. But just look at the great line-up they have outdone themselves again. Unfortunatly there is a great cost to put on these multi day shows especially with the line-up of greats the PSGA show has. It may be a one weekend show but it takes most of the year to put a show such as this on. The Northeast is lucky to be able to have a show of this magnatude. It depends on the support and attendance to continue, the players do their part and come from long distances. They bring their latest and earlier releases. along with many great products for the Steel Guitar. The admission price is a bargain for a weekend of listening and being amongst the best of the best. Support this great event. |

![]() For the folks like me who are better at listening verses playing, I highly recommend this show simply because the room won't leave your ears ringing. And if I recall, the steel players amps weren't at the mercy of a sound man. The room is just the right size so you can hear the players signature tone without the amps being miced. A superb room along with top notch players is worth the commute and ticket price. gL |

![]() Gary, You are too modest about your playing, as you are a great player. I agree 100% about the room. You know what happened to me in St. Louis with my sound at the mercy of a sound man. Anyhow, at this show you hear each player's actual tone since it isn't going through the PA. Also, another feature at the PSGA show is the big screen where you can see each player's hands up close. I think this is worth quite a bit as you can get ideas about technique of each player's hands, that cannot be seen from the front. Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to this show as it is one of the finest in the country in every respect. Also, as Jody mentioned, Mike Gross is a big asset to the show too, as he is so knowledgeable about the music business and this adds a lot to the show. Herby Wallace ------------------ |

![]() Herby and Jody, Thank you guys for your kind words and it is people like you that make all that I do in this business all worth while. Your appreciation just encourages me to program your music even more so. It is no secret how I feel about you both and your playing. My listeners world wide can attest to that. ------------------ |

![]() Mike, Its true you are an asset to the show. Your not considered a DJ, you are a personal friend to all of us. When ever someones birthday comes along, Mike pays tribute to those steel players and musicians and in addition cuts a cd and sends it to the steel player as a show of respect and that respect you give us has now turned around and It is my friend Mike Gross who will receive all the respect he so well deserves. Where would the antiquated Hot Club Of America be without the help of Mike Gross. We Love you Mike. As Rick Martinez once said over the air and I quote "Amigo" "THERE IS ONLY ONE MIKE GROSS" See you soon Mike and all of you. Thank You, all Of You. Edited to say "BE THERE" and hear the great players of different styles. This is not a competition contest ,it is steel players helping one another and doing their best for Bob Maickle and the PSGA and its members. Dont MISS This [This message was edited by Jody Carver on 18 October 2005 at 11:00 AM.] |

![]() I wasn't going to add to this post, but let's not forget the great Van Manakas on lead guitar and the solid backing of Bruce Chappele on bass and the wonderful fills and solos by Fooch on fiddle who is a fine steel player to boot.It will be so nice to see Herby and Joe for the umpteenth time again. Also without Bob Maickel holding this organization together for all these years while other Steel Clubs have been formed he should be commended. Thank you Bob. And to Mike Gross, thanks for all your research and dedication to promote the steel guitar world. He even plays my CD's. You help keep it alive for the masses. I'll see you all next month, you to Jody. Don |

![]() Jody and Don, You guys are wonderful and I truly appreciate your kindness. It is so nice to see the mutual respect that we have for each other. I also want to mention that we will again have two other fantastic musicians in our rhythm section on Saturday and these two guys are another two of our MAGNIFICENT back-up musicians. They are both from New York's City's premier Western Swing band and one of the world top bands, the Western Caravan. Their bass player, Steve Alcott and their drummer Dave Sonneborn will again being doing their fantastic rhythm work for our Saturday afternoon steel guitars in concert. ------------------ [This message was edited by Mike Gross on 18 October 2005 at 07:46 AM.] |

![]() Just a reminder. There are but 12 days left for our special PSGA reservations reduced room rate at the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk, CT. for accomodation at our annual show. After October 31st, the hotel might (but are not contractually obligated) to continue to honor any PSGA reservations at their discretion, for the reduced room rate or the much higher rate, depending on how many rooms are booked. The list they have provided to us has 93 rooms booked as of 2 weeks ago. We've been allocated 110 rooms. If you've not reserved your room as of today, please do it quickly! "A word to the wise is sufficient" as my Grandma always told me. We are looking toward a great show at this facility which has been the venue for our annual event since 1995. |

![]() I want to clarify one comment I made the other day. When I said something about not being at the mercy of a sound man, I didn't mean to offend anyone at St. Louis or any other show. It's just like Gary Gimble said that in a smaller room, you can hear each players true tone through their amps as we all know that each players' individual tone is a big part of their playing and sound. If I have offended anyone I do apologize and as to St. Louis I realize it is a difficult job for the sound man since each steel player uses a different amp setup and we don't have time for an individual sound check. Herby Wallace ------------------ |

![]() I wanted to add a comment about a post I put on here the other day concerning the sound. When I mentioned not running through the PA and being at the mercy of the sound man, I didn't intend to offend anyone when I said something about St. Louis. The issue about the P.S.G.A. show is that the room is small enough that you can hear each player's signature tone just coming out of their amps, as we know that the steel guitar tone of each player is a big part of their playing and sound to other steel players. As to St. Louis, the room is so large that players have to be miked through the PA and I do realize that the sound people have a difficult job going from one player to the next so quick with no individual sound checks, so I do apologize if I have offended any sound men. ![]() I am so stoked to be attending the full weekend this year. I won't be buying a new PSG this time, but I'm looking forward to all the great playing and bringing home plenty of CD's and some teaching material. I'm admittedly a little green still after only being at this for a few years. I've only heard a little of Jody's playing, but I am expecting that to be one of the real treats this year, all the other awesome players not withstanding. This is such an incredible show (and value!) every year. Hopefully this year's turnout will justify it continuing along the same lines for many years to come. I hope everyone that could possible attend, does themselves a favor. Bob P. |

![]() Great news! I just received my acceptance notice in the mail. I re-applied for the position of "Steel Reporter." There was a little confusion at first. I was accepted for the position of "porter", until Bob put his reading glasses on... So, you guys who are onstage, you'll have to contend with me snooping and prying for a scoop! And don't bring your dogs to the show.....I don't do that kind of scooping! [This message was edited by HowardR on 28 October 2005 at 08:58 AM.] |

![]() Jody, Amigo, what a wonderful way to start off a day with seeing you posting again. What even adds to the euphoric mood is that it is for our long awaited PSGA show. This has got to be one the best shows that we have done. Jody, thanks for your kind comments about the small part that I can give to the show. It is my pleasure to do this for the PSGA and also to get the opportunity to see and enjoy and chat with all my heroes including you. ------------------ |

![]() Now for the good/bad news. As of this morning 10/31/2005, the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk, CT is sold out on Friday 11/11 and Saturday 11/12 for our PSGA show, there are some rooms left on Sunday, 11/13. The bad news, our discounted PSGA $80.00 room rate no longer applies but the hotel will still accept reservations at the much higher cost per night. Then again, the Hotel screwed up 2 weeks ago by announcing all PSGA blocked rooms were booked when they were not. So if you had tried to make a reservation before today, but didn't, due to having to pay the full room rate, they will accept the reservation TODAY 10/31/2005 at the discounted rate. You must phone the hotel before business hours end at 1-203-523-2208 and speak to Christine. You MUST speak directly to her, the front desk knows nothing. |
Jody Carver Member From: The Knight Of Fender Tweed~ Dodger Blue Forever |
![]() Bob I'm not at all suprised, my daughter tried getting a room a few days ago and was told the hotel was sold out. This has to be the biggest show that you have had and the musicians and steel players warrant that kind of attendence. I am please to be a part of the great lineup |
Larry Jamieson Member From: Walton, NY USA |
![]() Up above, Herby Wallace had a comment about the price of the show... Friends, if Herby Wallace was the only performer you saw, he alone would be worth the price of admission. When he plays, he will amaze you with his technique and his talent. If you have never been to Norwalk, or if you have never seen Herby play, come this year and check it out. You will not believe anyone could play so many notes, so cleanly, and so fast! I stand in awe when I see this master perform... There are other excellent players who will appear as well. To see and hear so many fine, professional players, and to get to meet them "up close and personal," is a bargain for the price of admission to the Norwalk shows. If you haven't been there, make this the year you attend! See you at Norwalk! Larry J. Walton, NY |
HowardR Member From: N.Y.C.,N.Y. |
![]() Yes, Herby swings like ther's no tomorrow. He plays fast and clean, but not just for the sake of speed. His playing says something, always. And I always look forward to his sets. I have noticed though, the closer it gets time for Chuck's Steak House, the faster he plays... |
