![]() geesh..maybe I need to come HOME for the weekend ! The guys up there in the NE (Ct) area are the finest, although I haven't seen many of them for a whole lotta years.. Jeff D. and I used to play the same joints and try to catch each others gigs now and then, his band Gunsmoke, was always the best around.. Norwalk Ct is my home court, grew up in Westport, lived in Norwalk for probably 10 years, played the scene from NY to Boston. but Norwalk was always the Country hot spot... My first Steel adventure was driving to Long Island to a PSG jam meeting which is where I first met Bob M. This year is already scheduled, but I guess if I wanna see Herby, Randy, Russ, Jim, Bobbe and the gang I need to leave the South and come North ! who woulda' figured that.. next year..ok, I'm coming home for the weekend... oh..and Chucks, if it's still like it was last time I was there..is GREAT ! The Darien location was always pretty good..but the Danbury location was most excellent..especially Happy Hour.. oh and the Steaks weren't bad either ! oh..sorry, this is a family thread.... hey Jeff D..just a side note. Tony Esposito ( drummer) lives just across town from me... [This message was edited by Tony Prior on 07 November 2005 at 02:58 PM.] |

![]() Now look what you've all done - I finally got five minutes to sit down and practice but now I have to respond to some really nice post on the forum. Thanks for such kind words Bob - I hope we can live up to your build up of Gunsmoke on Saturday night. Tony P, I still talk about the old days following you in & out of the night clubs. I miss the days when I could go down the street and see a player of your ability. A lot of great steel players moved out of the area over the years and you are one of them. If Tony wasn't on steel one night he was playing some great guitar with some other great picker next to him on steel. I remember how nervous I was when you filled in one night on guitar with Gunsmoke. Be great to see you again - Make your plans to come "home" next year and see the show. |

![]() Quote from Jeff D; "I hope we can live up to your build up of Gunsmoke on Saturday night". That shouldn't be a problem,Jeff. All you really have to do is simply play a few songs for us. You see, if Gunsmoke was having an "off" night it would still be about twice as good as anything I can hear around my area. And Jeff, make sure to bring all of your CDs, I think I know a guy that wants one of each. |

![]() Looking forward to the this year`s show.(missed last year`s). Elaine Ellis and I will be staying at the hotel Friday night. We`ll be there for all of Saturday and driving back to R.I. after the super jam. We have a gig on Sunday afternoon. Is there a club or a honky tonk within a ten mile radius, featuring C&W music on Friday nights? [This message was edited by manny escobar on 09 November 2005 at 12:03 PM.] |

![]() If there was a club within 10 miles that played C&W I wouldn't be setting up for the PSGA show on Friday night. Seriously Manny, no club around. Thanks for the kind words Merle - looking foward to seeing you. Jeff |

![]() Last night I picked up Russ, Randy, & Bobbe at the airport and we rode up to Norwalk. They thanked me, but it was I who should have thanked them. A real pleaseure to meet these three fine players and all around great guys. So (in the words of Mike Gross), "without any further delay, let the show begin".......How'd I do Mike?.... |

![]() I just got back from the PSGA show and I have to say that all the steel players there were great. But Mike Seigler was smokin! He was just incredible....he made that GFI sing....What a day. For all of you who didn't get to go, you missed a good time. ------------------ |

![]() The funniest part was that they were having a Jerry Garcia Art Show at the same hote. When I walked in and saw the sign saying Jerry Garcia Art Show, I thought it must be a very clever inside joke. The art work was actually very good. |

![]() Wow what a great weekend! I got to spend the whole time with my 10 year old son at the show, he really liked it. I didn't think he'd sit through it the first day, but begged to go back on Sunday. Sorry for all the autograph requests guys, but Cameron loves to collect them. *Russ Hicks & Randy Beavers- what great twin steels, I keep playing 'Splanky' off your R&R CD-what a song, Randy is an awesome player and love his gospel CD, lots of stuff today doesn't do much for me today, but this CD makes me feel excited again-Thanks Randy *Joe Wright- What can I say, you are the best, you can do anything and do it twice as good as anyone else, yourself included, HaHa *Herby Wallace-great as usual, I love the different stuff you play also. Are you sure you didn't grow up in the NY metro area? (Chuck's Steakhouse wants to hire you in their new advertising campaign!) *Mike Sigler-A fellow Ohioan, didn't you know that most of the best Steel Guitarists come from the mid-west, you are a monster *Jody Carver-What a show, showmanship to the Nth degree, what a treat to see a glimpse into the past, I just wish I could have seen it then. Thanks for entertaining us and I love the Hot Cub of America CD. * Jim Cohen, 'the master of acceptable tone' the the 'King of taste'. Your set was great. You and the band did fabulous job on the Rollins & Parker tunes and the Hollies'"Busstop" You are great *Lonnie Bennett-As great a player you are, you are even more as a person.you wowed everyone, and thanks to you and your band for being so nice to my son! *Thanks to Bob M, Mike Gross, and Jeff DeMaio, you guys carry the real weights onyour back and we all appreciate it. ![]() Thanks Craig, Howard and everybody else for your nice comments. Jack, thanks for your bump. We sure wish that you could have made it. I can't say enough about the weekend. It was a dream! No one yet mentioned Gunsmoke in concert on Saturday Night. That is what Western Swing and Texas dance hall music is all about. Jeff DeMaio on steel guitar and Scott Tyler on lead guitar were for sure the 21st century reincarnation of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant. They also brought back such memories of Buddy Charlton, Leon Rhodes and the Texas Troubadours from another musical era. Howard R will be reviewing the weekend (including some wonderful photographs) in the "Pedal Steel Guitar Association Newsletter." I will be doing the same for Barbara Martin's "Western Swing Monthly." Thanks to all that atteneded; you made it happen! Sunday's audience was a part of history as Jody Carver played Jerry Byrd's steel. "Nuff Said! ------------------ [This message was edited by Mike Gross on 14 November 2005 at 06:57 AM.] |

![]() Craig just about covered everything I would have said. It was so nice meeting many of my friends I had not seen since my last seminar with Jeff Newman. I want to thank Bob Maickel, Jeff DeMaio, John, Darlene and of course Mike Gross and his wonderful wife Susan for there hospitality and the ride back to the airport Monday. It was also a pleasure to manage the stage and get the artist ready to play their set. And thanks Joe Wright for the chiro on my carpel Tunnel Friday while setting up the lighting. I'm sure Fooch thanks you also. Don |

![]() Don, Glad that you are home in Florida safely. You are very welcome from Susan and myself. Most of all, you deserve all sorts of thanks for all the work that you did getting things together on the stage. You sure worked like a bear all weekend for everybody up there and I want to be the first to thank you for your part of making this PSGA weekend the success that it was. ------------------ |

![]() As V.P. of the PSGA, I would personally like to thank all the "Great Steel Players" we had for the show. You all gave us a show to remember. I would also like to thank our fantastic backup musicians. Again, they were a perfect compliment to the best of the best. But, most of all, I would like to send a "Heartfelt Thank You" to our club members. You all responded wonderfully to the show, with your attendance and exuberance. We needed the support, and you, the club members provided it. Remember, it's your club as it is our's ( the officers ) We are just elected to guide it and make it a club to be proud of. We, the officers, will continue to make it so, for as long as we can. Sincerely, John De Maille VP-PSGA |

![]() I need to give special thanks to the steel players that loaned me there guitars for me to play my three sets at this great steel meet. Jeff D. for the P-P Emmons, Mike Sigler for the great GFI And to the guy that drove across CT. just to loan me his double neck eight string SuperSlide with which to play my last show. Mr. Drew Ritzu, a fine CT. player and great steel supporter and person. Thank you again Drew,(Dru?). I don't think I've ever met so many great new folks in one place at one time in my entire life. Fans and players both. Everyone needs to see this show next year, It is GREAT! Bobbe Seymour |

![]() John, this show would not have been the success it was with out the great leadership and staff such as yourself, Jeff, Bob, Mike and us hoodlums on stage. I haven't mentioned Joe Wright in any of my complimentary posts here, but lets face it, this guy is a monster, the entertaining nut of steel guitar! Not only a wonderful player, but a great guy and a total pleasure to watch. The reason I played the SuperSlide on the last show was that these guys were to hard to follow on a pedal guitar! Ha! Again I must say that I met some of the most wonderful people on earth at this great show. Getting off the plane at Laguardia and being recognised was wonderful to my ego also, until I realized they were just fellow players coming in from around the world for the CMA show in NYC. I'm sure my Sho-Bud T-shirt helped me look like a star! Bobbe |
Mike Gross Member From: Fairfield, Connecticut, USA |
![]() Bobbe, Thanks for the kind mention. It is really appreciated. Whatever I did was fun! Glad that I could help. You say that they made you feel like a star at the airport. Amigo, you are a star!!!!! ------------------ |
