Ladies and gentlemen, I am in shock as I try to bring you this sad news. Jeff Newman has just been killed while flying his new airplane It is now 4:50pm Wednesday central time and this happended about 40 or 45 minutes ago. All I know is that the plane crashed as his grand daughter or maybe his daughter was taking pictures of his new plane as he was flying it over his home/farm just outside of Nashville near Watertown I believe. Please have Fran and the rest of his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. I'm sure more will be posted as more information is gathered. God bless the Newman Family. Bobby Bowman |

I have read the sad news. Jeff was a member of the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame and attended EVERY ONE of the International Steel Guitar Conventions. Even before we added the name International to the Convention. Jeff conducted a teaching seminar at the very first convention in 1971. It is indeed a shock to the entire steel guitar world to hear about his untimely death. A death of a friend is always hard to handle. Our prayers go to Fran and the family. Scotty & Mary |

This is indeed tragic news for all who love steelguitar. Our prayers go out to Fran and the family with their loss of their loved one. I know our steelguitar family and all those that he helped learn to play the steel will be at a real loss for we all thought the world of Jeff! I attended his week long beginners school back in 1984. I will surly miss him.Ken and Leigh Latchum Danville, Va |

This is tragic beyond belief or measure, as I write with tears in my eyes.Jeff was not only a personal friend and colleague, he was a mentor to me professionally. One of only three or four men who have significantly changed my adult life. There is now a void in the community of steel guitar that will take some time to fill, if ever it is filled. The absence of Jeff Newman will be incredibly significant, IMHO. |

I remember a couple of years ago sitting at Jeff's watching him fly his ultra-light in his field and thinking how cool that was- just for him to be able to take off and fly. He also said that he was expecting a new plane soon and I now suppose that the one he was killed in was that plane. He gave me my first lesson and many others over the following 27 years that followed. I will miss him and truly hope that Fran continues to come to the shows and market their fine products. |

I am also shocked by this sad news. Over the years we've had Jeff do numerous seminars around the Toronto area. Back in the '70's, I attented my first Jeff Newman seminar in London, Ont. (with George Webb & friends). During the seminar, Jeff stated that 'white coloured guitars' never sound any good...guess what?...I was the only one in the room with a 'white' guitar. Just an example of Jeff's humour! As I look at the 'Jeff Newman Corner of Instructional Material' in my store, I am greatly saddened by the thought that this great teacher will be no more! Our thoughts & prayers are with Fran & the Newman Family. Al Brisco |

I never had the pleasure to meet Jeff , but i have always thought that he was the best teacher in the steel guitar industry . When anyone asked me how is the best way to learn to play the steel i always told them Jeff Newman is the one to learn from . He will be sadly missed by the steel guitar lovers . But he had made plans for just an occasion . Now he will be making music around the throne of God . God bless all the family of Jeff Newman . Our prayers are with you . Regards,,,Gary . |

What a shock to hear this sad news,Jeff has helped more people to learn to play steel guitar than anyone else in the world. What a huge loss to the PSG world and Fran and the family.Jeff was instrumental in getting our first show off the ground in Mesa Az.back in January and we at the SWSGA will allways be greatful to him for that. I pray now that the Lord will take Jeff in his loving arms to be with him forever and give his wife Fran and their children the strenth to carry on his work. Rest in peace Jeff Newman. _____________________________________________Fred Justice Events Dir. SWSGA |

My prayers go out to the Newman Family. I was going to drive to see him play at the Super Jam last night and didn't because I didn't want to make the three hour drive by myself. I figured I would be able to catch him at The Choo Choo Show...How quickly we are reminded that sometimes tomorrow does'nt always come. Again I am deeply saddened by the news of Mr. Newmans passing. God Bless. |

I am totally blown away by this sad news. I have known Jeff and Fran since 1976, I will miss him greatly, our prayers go to Fran also. That old song "Who's gonna fill their shoes", no one can or will fill Jeff's shoes, he was the #1 steel teacher in the world. I always felt that Jeff and Tom Bradshaw and Scotty did more for the steel community than anyone could ever imagine. Larry Behm |
