I am wearing out all the old copies of the SGI Newsletter that a friend gave me a couple of years ago. I am a supporter.

I thoroughly agree with Dan Tyack and Herb Steiner. An on-line site is the way to go. It can be media rich and deliver trendous value to its audience for a fraction of the cost of a paper product. I just don't see the numbers and the ad base as viable for a hard copy product.

You would serve yourself well by finding out who would be willing to spend advertising dollars. What would a full page ad cost? Color? Classified ad? Most magazines stay alive by advertising dollars, not subscription dollars. In the case of a SGM, I'd have to say you'll need both.

Terry,

For an example of a newsletter/website combination, check out the Banjo Newsletter: http://www.banjonews.com/. They have mp3 files to back up the tab section in the newsletter.

Best of luck in your venture.

Terry,

All periodicals are having a hard time these days... there's this thing called the internet! I'd take a serious look at how many steel guitar players are in the world, and what percentage of them would PAY for a magazine. Let's face it- the Forum is cheap access to a world of information. Best of luck in all endeavors!

Silly me. I should have read the last post before responding. I agree than an E-magazine is the way to go. Go for it!
