The tribute performance to Hal at the Dallas TSGA Jamboree this year was one of the most moving musical events I have ever witnessed. His enthusiasm for the performance was a wonderful statement of courage and style that is truly humbling in the light of what he was facing the following week. I will gratefully remember that he was never too busy or sick to greet this foreign tourist and pose for a picture.

As one of you already said, we all have our own fond memories of Hal.
Hal's abillity and knowledge of the steel guitar went beyond great. He was a master of any style or tuning and was always willing to help even the strugeling beginner.
We will all miss him very much but Hal's legacy will live on for years to come.
Brenda and myself send our prayers to Hal's family, God bless you Hal Rugg.

My heart is sorrowful for such a great loss. I have loved Hal Rugg and his playing for more than 25 years. May God comfort the family during this time. I feel like I was so blessed to see Hal play at the Texas show this year. It was the last time I saw him play and is something I hope I never forget. Hal may be gone from this life but he will never be forgotten.

I can only imagine the loss Hal's family and close friends are feeling on a personal level. Although I didn't know him well, like many of you, I was witness to many, many of Hal's sets at the ISGC and other shows and conventions around the country. I was always impressed by his versatily to play as simple or as complex as the situation demanded.

Having spent time at Jeff Newman's school, I am obviously a rabid fan of Jeff and his teachings. He related a story in his class about the pros around Nashville and who was willing to participate in his jams or come to his campus to entertain and awe his students.

He said the Hal was one of the first to volunteer his time, along with John Hughey, Buddy Emmons and Stu Basore. Hal was there in the audience with the rest of us at the class I attended in 80 or 81, I forget which, when PF played an evening concert for us with BE on bass.
It was a thrill for us to be there and see all of those heroes we admired and appreciated all those years, mingling with the likes of us wannabes on our level. I have been at other functions where Hal and Jeff shared stage time.

I know that Jeff and Hal were close friends and I have to believe they had a joyous reunion shortly after 9:00 this morning. Like one of our other heroes Jeff Newman, another icon of the steel guitar world, Mr. Hal Rugg has left a place that can never be filled. A true stylist, and ambassador for the steel guitar. Go rest high Hal.
