Take comfort from the words of the beautiful song from Hal's last gospel CD,"RISE AGAIN" The words so aptly state,"I'll Rise Again. No Grave on Earth Can Hold My Body Down".God bless his Family. Joan I hope you will always remain a part of the steel guitar family. |

July, 2002, we had the privilege of having Hal Rugg in our home for supper and a jam session. I have a video of that evening which I will cherish from here on out. May God give comfort to the family and may His presence strengthen them in the days ahead! Jeremiah |

I only met Hal a couple of times but he has been one of the biggest influences on my playing. I got kind of blindsided last night playing. Jimmy and Starla started telling our crowd of friends about Hal and then we played a Lorretta Lynn song. I got half way through the solo and had to quit playing. For a moment I couldn't see my guitar from the tears welling up. Wasn't expecting that. I wish I would have got to know him better as a person all though I agree he was definately a prince. I will be happy in the fact that he gave me so much musicly. Thank you Mr. Rugg

One of the great things about having heros is finally getting to meet one and at the SWSGA 1st convention last year in Mesa, it was my pleasure to meet and talk with Hal. I bought all of his CDs and he gave me one of his business cards, which is sitting in front of me. When I had told him of our discussion of maybe moving to Tucson sometime, he was very gracious to extend an invite to see him when we made the move. Meeting Joan was a joy. What a beautiful lady and I told her what a cute couple they made. That brought a wonderful smile of love to her face. Then Hal told me of the "spot" the doctors had found on his lung and I became very concerned as I've heard of these things before. Many times they become serious and in their aggressive treatment, it spreads to the brain and the result is usually not good. I lost my dad to lung cancer and survival rate is not good. Too many of my steel heros have gone but I'm glad to gain new ones from the crop of current ones. Thanks Hal for being so gracious to me in January of 2004. I'll remember it for a long time. |

To The Rugg Family and Hal's Many Friends:I have just returned to the Steel Forum after a long absence. It is sad to loose another Steel Legendary Great. Like most of you all, Hal Rugg's steel guitar artistry has influenced and inspired me for years. But recently, I got better acquainted with him, and learned what a Super Person Hal is too! May GOD bless each of you, and just think how blessed we all were for getting to know, hear, and appreciate the wonderful talents that GOD bestowed on the life of one Hal Rugg. Terry Wood |

It was such a blessing to get to see and visit with Hal in Dallas this past year. We visited briefly in one of the side rooms about how cool it is that the old Wilburn Brothers Show is on the air again and what a great and talented team he and Buddy Spicher were on that show. I'm sure gonna miss Hal at the steel shows. My sincerest prayers of comfort for Hal's family go out at this time. |
