What a difference a few months can make!! This is such an exciting opportunity for ALL music lovers. It is also a great opportunity for the state of Alabama. Thanks Bill Cook for taking the initiative to get it started; your leadership has been what we needed. Thanks to all the Georgia club members who have been so supportive in mentoring us through the inception of the club. Thanks to all the great players that will be here to kick this event off!! We wish we could have had everybody. BUT, wait until you hear what's coming down the road; maybe as soon as July. Hopefully Bill will have more forthcoming at the show. We're really anticipating a great turn out. It seems that alot of people have been waiting for this club to happen. Well, it has happened. If you haven't made plans to attend, you might want to rethink passing this one up. The Saturday night jam offers alot of good players & singers. It should really be fun. Then, Sunday morning at 10 am, the show will kick off. I couldn't imagine not being there. Now, who's gonna kick this thing off? Is it Tyler? I'm confused!!! A decision needs and must be made. |

Tim, Thanks so much for the kind words. You, Bill Simmons, and Carolyn Sue Cain have done the lionshare of the work. This show is going to be a GOOD one. As for who is going to kick the show off, it appears to be The KID, Tyler Hall. He has not presented his case to our First Lady, Miss Laney Hicks, as far as I can tell. Laney is a real sweet lady!! Don't know why Tyler hasn't responded. Might be he wants to go down in History, as the First Player to play the ASGA Super JAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I am really looking forward to this show. I want to thank Bill for letting me get in on it at a late notice. This appears to have the potential of being one of the finer shows around. Kenny, go to www.alabamasteelguitar.com and click events. There is the show flyer. We just got the website up and running, so we have some dressing up to do. It'll be a great site after the show. Be sure to visit the Events about a week after the show. Might be a big surprise. The jam starts at 5 pm Saturday at the hotel. Herby, so glad you'll be here! This will be the first of many. Bill you really went and done it.This is one of the greatest things you can do.My wife Anna and I started the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association back 9 years ago and it is still going strong.We have one of our quarterly meeting this comming Sunday and then we Jam after we have our pot luck lunch and meeting. Ms. Laney. Sorry for the slow post, I haven't got on the computer since Thursday, I think. I was a little too humble to tell you what I did for Valentine's Day, but if you really must know, here goes: I picked up my Valentine and we went to the Olive Garden, the best restaurant around. After a candle-light dinner, we proceeded north to the Tom Williams Lexus dealer. She nearly fainted as I handed her the key to a new Lexus SC430 convertible (black of course!). The backseat was full of roses, about 6 dozen. As we headed back to the house, I slipped a beautiful 1.38 CT emerald cut diamond ring on her finger. This is where the story ends. I can't tell the rest, so please remember what a kind fella I am. By the way, we'll be going on a cruise in May. |

Tyler, The Olive Garden? On Valentines? Garlic? Here's a Valentine story: Took my lovely bride to Nashville and stayed at Union Station. Has the same touch of romance as the movie "Somewhere In Time", starring Jane Seymore and the great Christopher Reeves. Before we left Birmingham, I gave her 3 red roses, with white flowers, in a small, crystal vase. A sweet card telling her why she's the greatest! Took a nice ride to Nashville and stopped for lunch at Ken's BBQ. Checked in the hotel, had dinner and took her to see one of her favorite "rock stars"; John Bon Jovi. Even though I'm not a big Bon Jovi fan, it was really a great show. We had 12th row, left stage. Left the show and crossed over to hear a little country music. Grabbed a cab and called it a night. Had breakfast at the Pancake Pantry on 21st and drove through Vaughns Gap on the way home. You learn after 20 years of marriage. Tyler, we all look forward to hearing you play. Whether you're first, or last; you'll knock 'em out! Don't you want to be the first to ever play the ASGA show?

Dear Tyler, AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, YOU MAY HAVE ANY SPOT ON THAT SHOW THAT YOU WANT! You had my vote as soon as I saw you refer to your sweetie as your "Valentine". The rest was just "icing". You see, I am of the opinion that the truly great players of the world's most emotional instrument are themselves "emotionally intense" people. It's just nicer when that emotional intensity is geared toward "someone else" rather than for "themselves"! I think you pass, and I'm looking forward to hearing you play. Bill? How about that? Tyler has been a really good sport, don't you think? It's been laughs, but it's time we let this young "victim" breathe. Anyway, I've got to get back to giving Russ trouble, where I really shine! This weekend will truly be a great show! I just talked to BOB SIMMONS, SIMMONS STEEL GUITARS and he is donating a couple sets of E9th strings and a couple sets of C6th strings for giveaways at the show. Thanks Bob for your support of the new ASGA! By the way, Bob builds some great sounding steels and is one of the best steel repairmen around. |

wow! Bill,Alabama is just loaded with talent- can't wait to see all of my ole friends Sunday. Jimmy Puckett came to pick up the new steel we built for him and he brought his brother AJ along -he's a great piano player and worked a lot with our ole buddy Julian. We recalled story after story about "spook" he was a real character- wish you could have made it up today |

Does anyone have a portable studio they could bring to the show? I really don't have room to bring my PC and Cubase software; nor the time. We will record if we can come up with a practical means of doing so. However, I need to know ASAP so we can bring enough mic's. This will require everything to be mic'd, which we had not planned on doing. |

I do hope and pray that you didn't tell Miss Laney any fibs just to get off The Hot Spot Slot!!!!!Tyler, "Hell Hath No Fury Than That of A Scorned Woman". I would advise you to, at the minimum, show up with your Valentine and properly introduce her to Miss Laney. You are not under any obligation to come up with a Lexus for me. I just figured that if you had the means to get your Valentine a Lexus, you might just could spring one for me too!!!!!!!!!!. Anyhow, Looking forward to seeing you and your Valentine tomorrow. You do have two rooms don't you?? I think Miss Laney might just frown upon you sharing the same room with your Valentine, even with that rock you gave her. OK folks, The Alabama Gang will be introducing their "First Show Ever" starting this evening. Please make plans to be there and help us get off to a great start. I'm sure you will enjoy every minute of it. It's worth the trip to hear Laney sing. I don't know who has the most talent her or Russ. They both are great! Bill, I will be working Saturday night but hope I can come on Sunday to hear all the great steel pickers, wow what a lineup. Wont bring my equipment this time but I sure would like to be on the playlist for the next Jam. Just a thought. I would think if this is an Alabama club you would have a few more Alabama pickers playing. Don't get me wrong The line up is top notch but, we can see them at almost any show we go to. Alabama has some top notch player that never get show cased in any Alabama jam. I can think of five or six just in my area alone and I know of tons more. If you go to the Atlanta shows you see all the local players and a few pro players come in to draw people. It's the same way if you go the Tennessee, Mississippi, Florda. I just thought it was funny that we have an Alabama steel guitar culb but we are not showing what Alabama has to offer in the way of Steel guitar pickers. That's sad  |

My thoughts exactly, Bob! There are several excellent players in the Birmingham area as well. Unfortunately, Sundays are bad for me as I play (steel and lead) regularly at my church and so I wish they would schedule events on Saturdays. ------------------ |

We only had 3 players on the program that weren't from Alabama. These 3 helped us get this club off the ground. What the club needs is support, volunteers, but basically, involvement. There was a tremendous amount of VOLUNTEER WORK and personal financing by Bill Cook. If you want to influence the club and have input, please join the club and be an active member. If you think things should be different, climb on board! The show was a huge success, with only a hand full of volunteer workers. All of the volunteers have full time jobs and families. Several of us did not play to allow room for others. It is a labor of love. You want things to be different? Well, don't sit on the sidelines and expect it to be what you want. We would WELCOME THE HELP! It's like voting. If you don't vote, don't complain! |
