Chas., You are the king of Bigsby collectors, I'm glad you had the love for them and the great forsight to get as many as you have. You are a smart guy with a lot of appreciation for the heritage of the great steel guitars. My hat is off to you. (and Paul Warnick) Farris, Brandella thinks you are a funny kind of guy. She said she'd give you anything you wanted, half off. (I hope she's not talking about my store stock!) |

I heard Tommy play that red Fessie at the Opry two fridays ago, it sounded real sweet. Nice job Tommy! I partly went to the Opry to hear him play. I don't know whether this would be historicaly a great steel... if he played it for a few incredable gigs and legendary sessions it would then have more cache. A fine night or 10 at the Opry maybe not enough. Now if Mandy Barnett sat on the front neck while singing Crazy Arms while looking at me, and Tommy was playing C6, I would snap it up in an instant. |

Robert, I’ve had four MCI or EMCI guitars. A gray Formica finish D-10 went to Gene Oneal, The Christmas album guitar to Chris Templeton, a third I don’t know where, and the fourth or my first MCI, I gave to Don Everly. I have given two other personal D-10 guitars away: one, a Derby to Ray Pennington and the other, a push/pull as a donation to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. |

Hey Buddy..next time your in the donating mode, and Don Everly tells you he has no more room in his music studio..you can always send one of them extra D10's over to my house, I'll get rid of the TV and put the Steel in it's place . I'll make my family sit and watch the Steel all night instead of the TV !t |

You’re absolutely right, Robert Martin. I have a buyer for one of my Legrande llls and I’m asking $2,500 for it. Which would you rather have for the same price; the one Bobbe said was mine or the one I say is mine?[This message was edited by Buddy Emmons on 24 September 2004 at 06:46 AM.] |

to be honest with you buddy i don't know which one plays the best is worth the most. i have a msa semi classic and a msa classic. thats all i can afford right now. i would love to have a d-10 emmons , sho-bud or even a msa but i just can't come up with that much money. but i will say that i would do research on both after i saw pics and see which one most people like and see which one is in best shape. then i would make a decision.not based on the owner or former owner. |

Buddy A LeGrandeIII is a LegrandeIII right? If i could buy one at Bobbe's for say $2000 and you would offer me the same steel for $2500.Wich one do you think i would buy?
Correct......Bobbe's one. I can't get the same sound out of it as you do. So why should i buy the expensive one. Ron Nikaro SD10 4x6 |

Buddy I think buying your guitar would be more realistic, even if it cost more. Just .02 worth. I have a '75 push/pull that belonged to Hal Rugg. I didn't mine the extra money. ha------------------ Rick Johnson

Given the hypothetical choice of two steel guitars of the same make, model, setup and condition, I don't think I would be prepared to pay a single dollar extra for a semi-celibrity provenance, like having belonged to or been played briefly by one of today's average session players. But, for a guitar played extensively by Buddy, Lloyd, Weldon or a few select others, it's a very different matter. A guitar previously owned by one of the guys who inspired me to take up steel, a guitar that can be heard on a big bunch of my favorite recordings - that would be worth quite a bit extra - $ 500 or more, no problem! Maybe such a guitar wouldn't play or sound better at all, but it would make me feel much better! But to pay that premium, I would like to buy it from the player himself; not from a dealer making claims that I have no way of corroborating. PS. So, if any of you big guys need to unload an axe or two, please feel free to send me an e-mail -------------------- Emmons Legrande II D10 8+5, Goodrich 120, Peavey Nashville 1000 |

Buddy. My reading on your post was a bit to fast i think.I did not read between the lines.Sorry. quote: Which would you rather have for the same price; the one Bobbe said was mine or the one I say is mine?
I too would have chosen yours. What i meant was that i would never pay a huge amount of money for a steel that belonged to a celebrity. If the price difference was up to say.....one or twohundred i would give it a thought. But there are so many people that are asking exorbitant prices when it comes to a instrument that belonged to a celebrity. And IMHO that is not fair. And i think that when the owner or former owner of that steel says it was his he should be believed regardless what anyone else says Ron Nikaro SD10 4x6

you have to admit if a dealer has a guitar and says it was so & sos then how would a person really know. i'm certain that you can't just call buddy and say hey and by the way was this yours.i'm the one that bought the 2 msa's from bobbe. he said in this post 1 was playable and 1 restorable. these had just came in said david bentley and he said that they weren't worth fooling with. i sent them back (cost me $85.00 to send back. there is no way that babbe seen what was in that box. it was sent to him from someone else and i would say that it was sent right back out to me. those guitars are pure junk. neither one was playable and formica missing. the best thing he could do is put those in a dumpster. cost me 860 but he has said that i will get my 860 back. so at least he is doing that. |

Well put, Ronald. I don’t know what a Legrande lll sells for these days but when comparing it to other prices I believe twenty five hundred dollars is a fair price regardless of who may have played it. Come to think of it, a lot of Nashville steel players have played my Legrande so maybe I should ask for more. I came close to paying an inflated price for a Fender steel Noel Boggs owned just because he was a hero of mine and I had seen him play it in the lounge of the Hollywood Plaza hotel. I didn’t grovel at the man’s feet but it would have given me a good feeling owning his one of his steels. I guess there’s a little bit of hero worship in all of us.
