Hey Duncan the guitar arrived yesterday, man is it beautiful! As hard as UPS tried the only damage they could do to it is breaking off the top of one of the tuners... I hate UPS! |

3 simple questions.Does anyone know if a ZB pickup can fit into a Carter Starter? If so, how hard would it be to get it to fit & work? Finally, does anyone have a ZB pickup sale or know where one is??? Thanks, Casey ------------------ Known Coast to Coast as "The Man with The Plan" Carter-Starter, Fender Pedal 800, Fender Champion, Guyatone Double-neck, a cheap Artisan & a Homemade Double-neck!

Maybe you could ask Bobbe Seymour to send you his 10/26/06 newsletter. |

I'm so sorry Joe. I sent Greg a set of Grover Rotomatics to replace any that were coming apart. I hope that he sent a couple of extra ones. If there is anything I can do to help fix this, yet another, UPS screwup let me know. Duncan[This message was edited by Duncan Hodge on 07 December 2006 at 07:25 AM.] |

Casey--si. I don't profess to know anything (except not to argue with Bobbe), but I was trying illuminate a relevant, clear and forthright treatise. (And one, as in Jeopardy, where the answer came before the question.) I almost got cleanly in and out of this topic without yiedling to the temptation to lob in an ill-considered simile involving a 454 under the hood of a Buick Skylark or allusions to attempts at prying objects out of ZB loyalists' cold, dead fingers. Ah, well. (I can forward it to you, but, there I go again, usurping Bobbe's place in the spotlight.) |

I just got finished with Harry Hatterer's #1086 1968. I put adjustable knee levers on and rearranged the copedant. The guitar is in original condition. Fantastic Zane Beck built ZB. This guitar was bought from Ted solesky who took orders for ZB. Its nice to see an original in this condition.[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 12 December 2006 at 10:16 AM.] |

Ben,If I could find a nice single-neck ZB Custom for a price I could afford, I would buy it & just sell my Carter-Starter. Everytime I listen to Tom Brumley play, I realize that that is the ultimate tone/sound. His stuff on the Don Rich Anthology C.D. might just be the ultimate!!! I passed onetime on a ZB Custom that was 3X2 E9th & I shouldn't have. Instead, I bought a Carter-Starter & the sound just ain't there...and probably never will be. I'm hoping that if I can find a pickup & install it in the C-S, perhaps I can get kinda close to the sound...it's probably a longshot I'm sure. If anyone knows where an available decent playing single neck ZB is, I would love to hear from them. I don't care what it looks like...it just has to have that sound!!! I have a D-11 ZB with 8&5. It's just like the one Tom Brumley used with Buck for a while. I am a Winter Texan and the steel is in Gardnerville, Nv. I wont be home until April of 2007 to give you any more info. on it. I'd sell it if the price was right. Any information I can provide you with is free once I get back to the guitar and have a look at it. Danny Williams |

Joe, That can't be the ZB that I sent to you...could it? I don't remember mine looking that pretty. If it is my old one I obviously was having a "momentary lapse of reason" and you should send it back immediately. In all honesty, I really hope that you enjoy it and play it often. It probably is the best sounding steel that I have ever heard, although my new one is in the running. I wish I could have kept it and sold my SD-10 to make the deal on my Fulawka, but it was not to be. Again, sorry about the UPS screwup. If I ever get around to changing the tuners on my red ZB to Grovers, and I hope that will happen soon, I'll send you one. Remember, it's my turn to buy a steel from you in 2008. Is there a trick to changing strings on a ZB? My 69 is a complete pain to change the strings on, keeping the string on the pin while winding the string sucks. Thanks. |

I use a piece of wood that jams behind the pin , this holds the ballend in place while you change the string ,very simple |

You can aslo use a piece of styrofoam that they use for corners to ship amplifiers in. I just cut them into a wedge with a razor knife. Handy to have for sure. My Gosh Joe!!! You got them strings worn out already!!! LOL Greg |

I am confused. The preceeding pictures of a blue D-10 look almost exactly like my 1969 serial 0154 Bakersfield. Whose is it and what serial number? Hello Lyle, I believe that the blue one that you see in the recent pictures is #0127. Than is if my seriously damaged memory and judgement center are operating within normal limits. Duncan |
